Trileptal for Benzo Withdrawal- starting dose?????

Posted by qbsbrown on March 2, 2006, at 23:04:18

I figured this was worth a shot to help ease me off of valim 17mgs that i am struggling with, started at 25mgs. I see it's pretty much the same med as tegretol (which has been used for benzo WD), just with less side effects.

Is starting dose typically 300 or 600mgs? Morning and night correct?

Any experiences?

I'm flying solo here in china. I have a GP that is willing to prescribe anything, but is clueless as to anything else (dosage, SEs)

Your advice is much appreciated,

Brian

Hi Brian.

Although the dosages for BZD withdrawal might be different than those used for epilepsy, the suggested starting dose is 600mg/day (300 twice a day). 1200mg/day is the usual target dosage. Again, this should be divided as 600mg twice a day.

Good luck.

Please post your results.
