I thought the xr was supposed to make it last longer? And how come a pdoc has never prescribed it for me? Just curious. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi Sleepygirl,

I quit cold turkey cause my internist really didn't know that I couldn't in September of '04. Please don't quit quickly. I'm lucky to have survived, no exaggeration. Quitting as slowly as possible is definitely the way to go.

I am on 150mg of effexor xr. So is one of my best friends and my sister.

You can go off this medication, if you are careful and do it under close supervision. It may take some time, but it can be done. Please don't be scared by what happened to others who were not warned. You are warned, and you will be mentally prepared to handle what happens. Preparation is everything. Just be prepared, and tell yourself you can do it.
