Lexapro Withdrawal

Posted by Krismny on February 25, 2006, at 14:07:05

I have been taking Lexapro for about a week now its the 1st time I have ever taken an anti-pressant and I feel horrible the side effects are interfering with my life I want to stop taking these pills but everything I read about the withdrawals scare me. Can someone tell me if I stop now will I have withdrawal symptoms? If so for how long? Also is there another medication that doesnt have such serious side effects.

Sorry to hear things feel lousy. If it has only been a week, withdrawals won't be bad. If there are any at all, they should only last 3 days to a week. Your doctor would probably want to reduce the dose, stay the course, or try another med. You're the boss though.

Thanks so much for your help Its funny that you said your husband had a problem with inappropiate laughter because I feel like if I start laughing I wont stop its like a mania feeling. But anyway I stopped taking the pills last night and I feel 100x's better today no withdrawals yet lets hope it stays that way if only my Dr would call me back. I had an idea to not take anti-depressants anymore I was thinking I might just continue with the therapy and keep the xanax on hand please anyone that can advise If this has worked for them?

I ahve been taking celexa and now lexapro for 7 years. From time to time I wont take it for a week. Never felt withdrawl. Depends on the amount you are taking. I took 10MG Celxa and 5 Lex...went 10 days on recent trip (forgot Lex) and felt no withdrawl but slight depression began creeping back. One week or one months should be easy. Taper if you are using 20 mg.

I still say it's not long enough to create withdrawal for you. Cut it in half for a few days and then stop. Fondly, Phillipa
