Stopping Xanax at .25mg dosage

Posted by ClearSkies on October 6, 2005, at 21:23:05

I took none today after taking .25mg for 2 days. Had a whopping 3 panic attacks and am so anxious I can't sleep. I just took a .25mg and am waiting for it to help me.

How long should I stay at .25mg before trying this again? I'm thinking of cutting the half in half again. Would that make sense or help me?

My usage has been 1mg/day for over 2 years. During crisis times it went to 2mg for a day or so. I'm tapering off at my doctor's advice - I'm doing really well generally with my depression and mild bipolar2 conditions under better control. But this xanax is a beast and its claws are sunk in my heart.
Any advice, please?

Yeah, you're in the same boat I am. Actually, I've only taken xanax up to 1.5mg a day or as needed for about 8 weeks, have weaned down, but find I just cannot let go of that last 25mg.

I've been cutting the pill into custom size pieces, so I think I'm now at about .15mg.

I was able to drop from 1.5mg a day down to just .25mg a day in just a week with no problems by discovering by accident something else that helps a lot...Magnesium Glycinate. Magnesium itself is calming, but I think it is the glycine component that really helps. It really seemed to turbocharge the xanax bigtime.

Even though the daily recommended dose of MgGlycinate is supposed to be 400mg, and some people take 800mg for calming and sedation, I find that even just about 50mg (cut tablet) is pretty strong. In any case, cutting your pills is fine, and adding MgGlycinate can help a lot.

The method most commonly used in medical practice to get off xanax is to replace it with valium and wean off of that instead, which is supposedly easier to do than weaning off xanax.

Thanks!! Replacing the xanax with valium isn't going to happen for me, so I am going to sliver my way down, and add the magnesium.
You're a peach!

Today, no panic attacks or anxiety. I even went to the grocery store which can be a horrible experience (even for those without anxiety, LOL), with no problem.
Have taken no xanax today.
I guess I will take each day as it comes and try not to worry about it.

I had one REALLY REALLY bad day last Wednesday (driving across the state during terrible weather in a crummy rental car). SInce then I've been OK. I think I'll be alright without my xanax, and without carrying it with me.
