depression headaches - paxil

Posted by korpacz on September 30, 2005, at 9:46:56

Hi, I just wanted to know if anyone has depression headaches? The reason I ask is because I was on paxil for 8 years and went off of it last June 2004. In August 2004 I started getting these weird weird headaches. I have been to GP, ENT, Neuro and gyno with no luck. They tell me I have headaches. Duh? My MRI was fine.

So, a year or so later, I am still dealing with the headaches. All I do is cry and cry. Am I depressed because of the headaches or are the headaches a sign of depression? I could go round and round.

I just don't care anymore about anything -- friends, husband, life, work, etc. I would like nothing more than to just lay in bed. At nights I actually go into my bed at 8:00 PM and cry. I hate feeling like this. I remember what it was like 8 years ago. Do I go back on ADs? Neuro gave me elavil for headaches, but that did not work at all.

Been doing research on headaches and depression. It is all I think about 24/7. I can't sleep. Last night I was up at 2 AM and that was it for me. Have lost weight. Headaches have become my life.

If anyone has any suggestions or has gone through this, please respond??
Please

Hello,

It sounds as if you just stopped taking the medication without tapering down. If that's the case then your headaches are most likely caused from stopping your medication abruptly.

When someone stops any anti-depressant medications "cold turkey" you can have withdrawal effects anywhere from a few weeks to several *years* there after.

I've read that you take the number of years you were on an anti-depressant, divide that number by 2, and that's how long you should take to taper down your dose.

Do you take any other medications?

I'm no expert, but it sounds as if you are depressed. I tried to get off of ADs twice in the past 15 years and I had to get back on them. The docs say my form of depression is like diabetes - it will always be there. I don't want to take ADs but I don't feel that I can get off of them.

I've recently, like in the last year, discovered that pain was the major cause of my 25 year old depression, including my adollescence. I have found a BRAND NEW LIFE with pain management for my migraines. I have had 24 hour migraines since my early teens, (now 40). I self medicated with alcohol all that time, thinking the alcohol was the cause and the cure. I got sober and went to every kind of doctor that exists, literally!
With pain management, with methadone, I have a new sunset and sunrise full of promise and hope. God has been doing all the work.
I hope this can help somebody. I refuse to live with this pain. So with a regimented and controlled medication routine, I will carry on. Pain free and happy. The only way it should be!
Ask god, he will listen!
AMEN!
