Long Term Effects of Effexor

Posted by Margie24 on June 1, 2005, at 23:21:13

After reading several messages, I'm really beginning to wonder what the long term effects of this stuff are.
One guy said, 4 MONTHS LATER!!!!! he still has withdrawal symptoms. I've read about vision problems continuing. Problems with vertigo long after stopping.????
Is there anyone out there who is free of all anti-depressants and feels "normal"?
Thank you.

No longer do I experience an intense and protracted withdrawal syndrome when discontinuing Effexor 300mg. I worked out a taper method that works well for me. Now I can discontinue high dosages of Effexor within two weeks and suffer no residual withdrawal effects.

I have been off Effexor for almost seven weeks now and off of my small dosage cross taper of Prozac for about three weeks. I am still not feeling myself. I am irritable, achy and am having real trouble losing even one pound of the thrity that I put on. I'm exercising and trying to eat healthy and still can't shake up my metabolism enough to lose the excess weight. I too wonder what the residual effects are on me and how much longer this will last. I wish I had better news to report.

Coming off Effexor wasn't hard for me, but I did taper, and I was taking a mood stabilzer at the time too. (I have BP2.)

Hey Scott,

It was Trileptal. (My first mood stabilizer was Depakote, and it worked fine, but I also gained 30 pounds on it, so I asked my pdoc if I could switch to something else. When I got off Depakote, I slowly started losing the weight.)

I am proud and very lucky to say that I have been off Effexor since 5/15! NO zaps, nothing! I finally listened to those that went before me and took smaller and smaller doses until I could wean off totally! I am so thankful that is behind me!
