Leaving Paxil/Entering Effexor

Posted by Rucci on May 22, 2005, at 12:42:02

Hi all. I want to get off of Paxil 40mg (gained 30 pounds) and try Effexor. I have to talk to my doctor to get started, but I want to avoid serious withdrawl effects. Some people say they went straight from Paxil to Effexor without tapering off. Does anyone know the best way to do this. The above method sounds quick, but scary. Also, I have been on Paxil since Jan. 2002. I started out on 10mg, then 20mg's for about a year and have been on 40mg's for about 2years. I'm so scared.

It probably makes more sense to cross-taper - gradually decrease the dosage of the Paxil while at the same time increasing the dosage of Effexor.
