I've recently posted about my withdrawal from Zyprexa-10mg for 5 years, and was prescribed Desyrel(trazodone)to help with the insomnia about three weeks into it.
The Desyrel helped me to sleep-100mg-but I was a wreck during the day. It was probably a combination of Zyprexa withdrawal and the Desyrel side-effects--sweating episodes,a hung-over feeling, sensitivity to light and sound, swelling in the neck area, sore throat, ears ringing, jaw tightness,--a nightmare. Because my psychiatrist reassured me that since we had tapered the Zyprexa down over a few months, withdrawal would be long gone,I questioned the side effects of the Desyrel. Oh,no,no side-effects.
So I believed him and started making rounds with various Dr.'s believing I had a throat infection,mono,something...this had gone on for 3 months,I had the sense to start tapering the Desyrel, but still felt like crap, and work wouldn't give me anymore time off. It was only a part-time job,but still. I had to quit a week ago.
Yesterday my boyfriend found a description of Desyrel on MedlinePlus, and every symptom I've experienced the past 3 months, can be attributed to the Desyrel. I've been off it now for 2 and a half days, after tapering to 12.5,with my "Dr's" consent, and still feel hellish. I'm wondering if I'll ever feel normal again.

Oh you poor thing!
There's so many people on here writing about their terrible experiences of withdrawal and a lot of them are saying that their doctor either didn't warn them or denies that there are withdrawal symptoms (mine included!). I think our doctors need to read this website. Or be given a dose of their own medicine?
I really hope you do feel better very soon :-)

Just wanted to let you know that I turned in a scary letter of resignation, and they did grant me a 60 day(paid) leave of absence.
