Effexor and WellbutrinXL

Posted by Mariqua on May 6, 2005, at 11:28:56

Does anyone know about taking the Effexor and Wellbutrin together, is it a good match? I saw my doc yesterday and she didn't want to take me off of the WellbutrinXL 300. She had me reduce to 150 and didn't want to try anything else for the symptoms or withdrawal of Effexor I was having. She thought maybe the 300 was too strong. At this point I'm not sure that what I'm feeling is the Effexor withdrawal or the the Wellbutrin side effects. I missed work like 3 day the week before, 1 day last week and now yesterday afternoon and today all day. I can't keep missing but I can't even function at this point. I am shaky, weak, and so anxious all I like to do is stay home and lay around, not deal with anything or anyone.
I guess instead of weaning of the Effexor XR anymore right now, I will stay at 75 for awhile(since it worked okay while I was on the 150 but the sexual side effects and sluggish feeling was not good)and the WellbutrinXL at 150.
My doc had no idea I was as bad as I was. She was out sick for a week or so and her nurse didn't have a clue. She was supposed to consult another doc there for advice but didn't. My doc apologized and felt bad.
I just hope I can stable off now and be 'normal' again and work and take care of responsibilities around here.

Thanks,
Mariqua

Well... with me personally: a few months ago I complained to my doctor about not being able to concentrate/having A.D.D. (which I'm convinced I have, but maybe now that I'm done with school it'll be okay) and she added Wellbutrin (whatever the lowest dosage is) in with my 150 mg Effexor. After being on it for a couple of weeks, I felt like it was making my depression come BACK, without any sort of benefits whatsoever, so I stopped taking it. That's my only exeprience with Wellbutrin.

Thank you so much for replying. I tell you, I am at my wits end with this whole thing.
Can I ask how you are doing now off of the Wellbutrin? My doctor is out today and she decreased my Wellbutrin from 300 to 150 last week and I am sooo anxious and jittery. I asked the nurse if she could check on it and now a different doc called me and told me to go back up to 300 wellbutrin.
Personally I think the Wellbutrin is what is making me anxious and sick and not the weaning of the effexor. I don't know anymore. I would think if the wellbutrin were working I would feel something positive after a month dont you?

Thanks.

:) oh, I'm fine after THAT. I didn't even really notice the subtraction of Wellbutrin into my system, I guess I wasnt on it long enough.

Does anyone know about quitting WellbutrinXL and lopressor cold turkey? Please let me know, I quit taking them about 1 or 2 weeks ago, and have been feeling light headed and really dizzy. Other than that I feel great. I am also wondering how long these symptoms will last, they just started a few days ago. Thank you anyone that can help.
