zyprexa withdrawal??

Posted by B2chica on April 29, 2005, at 10:39:00

i'm really considering going off zyprexa. i've gained a lot of weight.
unfortunately it seems to be the only drug that's worked for me. but i have a bit of ED as well and i'm just so...sickened by my 'overeating'. then i end up SI'ing.
I guess my main question is has anyone had bad reaction to stopping immediately? should i taper off? if so at what pace. i'm on 10mg at night.

right now i'm feeling ok, and don't feel the need to stop but i want to ask the question so that if/when i decide to stop i won't have terrible reaction.
i'm a little scared cuz last year in the hospital i stopped symbyax immediately and started another and i had a Terrible reaction but i don't know if it was from going off zyprexa or going on Trileptal (or maybe the combination still in my system?)

any insight is appreciated.
thnx
b2c.

I was on zyprexa 80mgs a day. i gained a bunch of weight too..... whatever you do dont go to any of its sister drugs (the new class of anti-psychs) for me they all had the same effect of overeating then SI'ing, it took me 6 months to get my head clear again, but i suggest you quit zyperexa cold turkey, then if you need a mild anti-psychotic.... there are some nice ones put out in the 1970's "Nozinan" is a favorite of mine, i lost all my "Zyprexa weight" and i sleep like a baby. hope that helps.

I was on Zyprexa 5 years,10mg. I just recently weaned off it--you can check out my other posts for the withdrawal syndrome I experienced(not a pleasant one),and 4 months later am still not quite back to normal.
Okay,I have to ask,what is "SI-ing?"

SI stands for self injuring..... i used to inject small ammounts of bleach in my arms, and cut my arms with a razor and pour bleach on them. SI'ing is the reason alot of people get put into the "pharmacutical str8 jackets" that these medications provide..... trust me, on 80mgs a day of zyprexa, u aint gonna self injure... or do much of anything for that matter.
