Mr. Supertolerant???

Posted by becksA on April 8, 2005, at 0:55:10

I've been thinking about all the meds I've taken in the past....and think it is very odd how with most of them, even at very high doses I can stop them cold turkey with zero side effects.. (Effexor max dose...cut in half for a couple days, then none)..Was on incredibly high dose of Xanax XR (9mg daily) for about 6 months....tapered completely off that in about 1 - 2 weeks. I'm on Lamictal 250 mg daily, and don't notice anything at all if I ever skip doses. What's my deal???

Hi!

>just want to make sure i'm not alone with these experiences.

I'm sure you're not. I know someone who abruptly stopped taking Valium after being on it for more than a year, she didn't notice any withdrawal symptoms.

I hope my earlier post didn't offend you. It's true- you are lucky :-)

I have much less difficulty with side effects than many people. Many meds feel like taking candy. The ones I am susceptible to are weight gain and drowsiness. (I sometimes wonder if my body is simply hypo-everything....hypoglycemic, hypotension, hypothyroidism....hypo--on all three main neurotransmitters....takes a lot to get going. Hypoactive.).

Not to say I have no side effects...just less. When going off Lexapro, I had to step back on a rapid taper plan a bit, but it still was only about 10 days to work a program of stopping it altogether.

Going on meds used to bother my body and give me awful side effects. I think I was so relieved when the pdoc said I could stop that I immediately felt better. I did have brain zaps when I tried to go off paxil l0mg years ago. That one I had to taper slowly. Fondly, Phillipa

So long as your physician has checked your pulse, to verify that you have one, I'd say you're more than lucky. You're nauseating. (Intended to be funny, in case there's any doubt....)

I am Mr. Side-Effect. I get the ones that occur in less than 1% of users. I truly think one of the reasons my last pdoc dropped me from his practise is that he was tired of hearing me list the effects of each drug he offered, and why I couldn't take it. Poor sod, having to listen to me.
