the first three weeks on geodon made me drowsy but once that passed I was convinced this was a miracle drug. but sadly after three months I began tapping my toes, bouncing my knee, couldn't sit still and was impatient restless. I thought it was pressure from my day to day lifestyle but as it got worse I began drinking to calm me down. I did a google search and found out it's called akathesia. I reduced my drug from 60 mg to 40 mg within one week and want to go to 20mg/day. I am afraid what will happen to me if I stop altogether. the restlessness, stiff neck ,jittery reactions are still there. will they go away? does anybody know?

I think you are experiencing akathisia. Go Google that. If the dose reduction from 60mg to 40mgs didn't help lower your dose to 20mgs. I took Geodon and 20mgs was enough for me to make a positive impact on my symptoms. If that doesn't help if the akathisia is not too bad you might want to try and wait it out. I've experienced it on Abilify and it was so bad that I had to stop the drug, but I've heard from others that akathisia can resolve on it's own with time. Good luck.

If you do decide to go off...none of my pdocs suggested tapering, I was fine. The akasthisia did not subside right away, it took a while--but it did go away.
