Here we go! Coming off Zoloft

Posted by freddo on March 29, 2005, at 8:15:52

Am on day two of going from 200 to 100mgs.

This is going to be interesting...I plan on getting off this stuff and, hopefully, losing the 40 or so pounds I've gained!

Don't forget to browse the "Withdrawal" Psycho-Babble board. There are some suggestions on what you can do to make the ride easier.

Going from 200mg to 100mg is a big jump - 50% reduction. Don't be surprised if you begin to feel some withdrawal effects. For me, I had more success coming off these drugs taking "smaller bites" and dividing the dose to 2-3 times a day, especially once you get to the small dosages toward the end of the taper period. I would suggest that you do not skip days in between doses. Don't be afraid to split the pills.

Remember:

1. I am not a doctor.
2. What works for others might not work for you
3. There are alternatives

Do yourself a favor. When you are down to 25mg or whatever your final dose of Zoloft is, take 20mg Prozac the day after your final dose. Cross tapering with Prozac ought to be approved by the FDA, it really helps.

Well, folks. It's been week so far (from 200mg 100mg). So far I can tell NO difference at all.

Happy so far!

Cool!

I wish you continued sucess. Some people have an easy time coming off of Zoloft. I hope you are one of them.

That's what happens with me. It makes me question if l. The medication wasn't absorbed. 2. The medication wasn't necessary. 3. It was a placebo effect and the belief the med was working just helped us to "help ourselves". Fondly, Phillipa

Hey. You are so right. I'm at 75mg a day of Effexor down from 225mg. The 20mg of Prozac has saved my life. I feel great and have ABSOLUTELY no more withdrawal side effects. Apparently ahs to do with Seratonin levels and the crappy half life of Effexor. AKA Side-Effexor in the Toronto psychiatric community.

I wish we could spread the word about the Prozac there is no need for people to suffer with their withdrawing from the drug.
cheers.

What the heck? From 200mg now down to 50mg a day...can't feel ANY withdrawal systems. Man this is great!

My mind feels less cloudy and foggy than it has in the past...the best way I can think of describing it is that my thoughts are "crisp" again.
