This is nothing new - weaning off effexor is a horrific nightmare. I called my doc today, couldn't take the nausea, night sweats, chills, disconnection from life, etc, etc. She said, "Come by and get samples of Lexapro. Take half a tablet everyday, take your 37.5 Effexor every other day. You'll feel much better and weaning will go faster". Agree or disagree?? Help! I've got three kids who need Mom to be in the moment instead of in bed!!!

Anyone out there who can help me? Has anyone had experience with using lexapro every day (1/2 a 10mg tablet) to get thru the horrid days of weaning off effexor?

Hi!

Taking Effexor every other day isn't generally a good idea- Effexor needs to be taken daily, even during tapering.
You could try taking half an Effexor tablet/capsule daily instead. If you've got the capsules you'll need to open one, tip the contents out and divide them in half.

Thanks Ed, Today I am somewhat functioning using no effexor & 1/2 a 10mg lexapro. Do you think if I continue in that mode for 2 weeks, like the doc advised, I will have withdrawal symptoms from the Lexapro? If you, or anyone else, knows that'll be a problem, I'll try the 1/2 effexor daily instead. Appreciate your response! Charley

It's possible. It might be useful to go down to 2.5mg Lexapro for a while before you stop completely.
