(Redirect) Help (Klonopin)

I was on klonopin for 10 years at 1mg. I have been off since 01/31/05. I tapered off the klon in only one month. So...I have been off for 6 weeks and I am going crazy. I have anxiety, terror and fear etc. I was put on tegretol at 200mg a day. I want to know a couple of answers. Will the tegretol prevent my benzo recovery? Can a fast taper prevent someone from TOTALLY RECOVERING? I feel terrible. Do I need to re-instate or should I just hang in there for a few more months. I am having a hard time hanging on to life.
Thanks,
John

That's a pretty intense statement.

I think you might look for the answer to your question within that statement.

I would have a hard time justifying continuing to suffer when there are alternatives. Restarting Klonopin is one.

There have been a few people here who opted to crossover from Xanax, a short-acting benzodiazepine to Valium and taper the Valium. They seem to have been successful. Both Klonopin and Valium have relatively long half-lives for a benzodiazepine. Perhaps Valium would be easier to discontinue than Klonopin for reasons that would be unclear to me. I don't know, but it is something to keep in mind.

Hi Scott!

>Perhaps Valium would be easier to discontinue than Klonopin for reasons that would be unclear to me.

In the UK at least, diazepam comes in 2mg tablets and as a 2mg/5ml oral solution. These can be used to taper in very small steps if necessary, the 2mg tablets can easily be divided into quarters. Clonazepam comes as 500mcg tablets, 500mcg of clonazepam is equivalent to quite a lot of diazepam. Also, we don't have a clonazepam oral solution. Diazepam oral solution can be used if very small reductions are needed, an oral syringe can easily be used to measure out doses as small as 0.2mg!
