After 2 1/2 mo. cold turkey do I go back on?

Posted by Elyse on March 14, 2005, at 2:59:48

Although I quit Zoloft cold turkey almost 3 months ago and am OUT OF MY MIND, is it a consideration to go back on to wean myself back off, or should I just keep going? This whole thing is so unfair!

Hi.

Exactly what are you experiencing that leads you to the conclusion that you are experiencing a withdrawal syndrome? Would you mind listing sysmptoms?

Thanks.

Elyse,
I am not quite sure I understand where you are right now - are you having difficulties now, and are considering going back on zoloft because you feel that you are 'out of your mind'? Who is working with you and the medications? What I am asking is, if you feel that you need an antidepressant at this point in time, is is possible to try another type of med other than zoloft. Did you quit because zoloft was causing you side effects, or because you felt you no longer needed it?

Marie, Sorry for the delays. I was very much into getting some support when I started looking into this website, just that between my own website business and being "down mentally", I just didn't have a whole lot of "oompfh"!

I quit "cold turkey" for several reasons. Firstly, no I didn't go off because I didn't think I needed it anymore. In no particular order, I ran out (started my own business that didn't have the insurance to cover it, was tired of not having orgasm's, and really wondered what it would be like to be off all meds). I went on Zoloft originally for severe PMS at 40 (4 years ago). I found it so incredible that I felt it should be put in our drinking water. However after several years of no orgasm's (with not a prior problem in the world until I went on Zoloft), not caring about how my house looked, not caring about the excess weight on my body, and to be honest, a huge wake-up call from my Aunt, it started me thinking. She (my aunt) mentioned to me one day that my Uncle was put on Zoloft because he was cold all of the time. I have battled severe hot flashes for the past 3-4 years, but attributed it to pre/peri-menopause. I was even starting to have the 2-3 periods a month and even then just figured...menopause. My doctor even "diagnosed" me with menopause. But when my aunt mentioned my uncle's reason for his doctor putting him on it, all of the sudden a huge correlation flashed in my mind. Why would his Dr. put him on it for his "coldness" all the time? Hello...maybe that's why I'm melting in pools of liquid hot flash 10 times a day. Everything just seemed to start making more sense and after finding this website and reading some of the withdrawal symptoms, I just wanted more than ever to try to kick this thing.

No, I don't want to go back on anything, but I wonder if I'll be able to cope without being on something. I've always had "issues" but have always fought the drug thing. That's why it took me to finally take something at age 40. Yes, it was a revelation. Finally feeling more "normal". I could actually start my period and have maybe one day of slight PMS, rather than being a witch for 2 weeks prior.

Well, I know you now know more than you wanted and you're probably thinking...what did I get myself into?? Thanks for your support, and I look forward to much more. By the way...I went to the health food store and got some really incredible vitamins that seems to have helped, if nothing else, to minimize some of the severeness of my mood swings. Anyone interested or have anything they've tried and have helped??? Thanks again Marie. Debbie

Scott, Sorry for the delay. Thanks for your support. If you could read the last post which I pretty much meant for you two, you'll get more answers! Thanks. Debbie
