Staying on Effexor

Posted by Marg on February 23, 2005, at 12:35:13

I don't know where the original thread had gone I was posting in. How long has my PC been down?

Anyway.........hope you're all OK and not suffering to much. (What a ride eh?)
The Doc has agreed to keep me on Effexor at the lowest dose taking a tablet every other day because my SP was getting so bad and I was nearly passing out on the 3rd day (day I took the tablet(Take one miss 2 days) due to the fact it lowers blood pressure.
I don't know if I'm going to be on them forever no doubt he will try to get me off them again because of Effexor damaging the heart but for now I'm pleased to be on them.

Take care all!!
Hugs Marg

My doctor wanted me to wean by doing the every other day and than every other two day regiment--I had a horrible time. So I went back to a regular schedule so I could stabilize.

Saw him yesterday and he suggested the same routine of weaning (DUH!!! it didn't work last time--what don't you get doc?!) I *reminded* him that it was too hard and said I want to wean by taking a little off the pills each day, let myself stabilize and then wean down some more. So that's where I'm at. That every other day stuff is crazy!!!

Oh and this was the real clincher...he wanted me take a *new* anti-depressant to help me wean off this one and then he would "get me off the new one". I look up the drug and it has the exact same withdrawal problems as Effexor. I refused that route too!!!

Be your own best friend and RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!!!!

Hi Marg,

Glad you're back (was getting worried). Bad news about the SP - sorry things didn't work out. The link below is one I had to the old thread, it got redirected a few times and got kinda hard to follow.

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20030407/msgs/218193.html

I seem to have made to the other side of the withdrawal, but it's still one day at a time and there's a lot of stuff coming up that need dealing with.

Just learned the other day that brackets around a persons name are used to signifiy hugs (we Aussies can be a bit slow), so here goes. (((Marg)))

Hang in there, I'll be thinking of you.
