Adderall withdrawal

Posted by Maxime on February 16, 2005, at 20:44:17

Hi

Okay, so I cannot replace the Adderall with another stimulant so I have to go cold turkey. The vomitting has started and the diziness. What can I take to ease my pain? Is there some alternative (vitamin, enzyme) I can take? (I didn't know whether to post this here or on the alternative site).

I'm miserable. I look green because of the nausea. I don't think anyone else has gone through withdrawal like this from a stimulant. Plus the exhaustion is hitting me.

There must be something I can take to help me through this hell. Please!

Maxime

I'm certainly no expert, but I can think of a couple of natural supplements that are stimulant in nature and, therefore, MAY help. One is the amino acid L-Tyrosine (available in Canada at most health food stores) and the other is NADH (I have ordered from the U.S. because it is not, to my knowledge, available in Canada, but I recently found a Canadian source in Newmarket, Ontario, which has been quite reliable for me for some natural supplements). I found both L-Tyrosine and NADH to be energizing. L-Glutamine is also energizing, but I seem to recall reading that those with bipolar should be careful with it because it can cause manic states.

Just a suggestion, but you may also want to copy the content of your post to the Alternative board where a lot of knowledgeable people, who may not visit this particular board, are likely to respond.

Thanks Tamara. I feel like I need to be in the hospital. I have crashed so hard. I just want to die. It's not right to allow someone to go through this.

Maxime,

You know what is best for you. If you feel that you need to be in the hospital, then don't waste any time. Either go to emergency or call your pdoc to see if he can have you voluntarily admitted asap. I know you have had some bad reactions to recently prescribed drugs and horrible withdrawals from others, so, it may be best not to take any chances.

You are going through, and have been through, so much, and my heart goes out to you. My thoughts continue to be with you.

Hi,

Why can't you take another stimulant?

I agree, why can't you take another drug? Also, even though you continue to suffer you are always so supportive of others. PS I just found this board. Fondly, Phillipa

There is dexedrine left. I can take Ritalin (I crash during the day). But my PDOC wouldn't write me a script for it. He said to try and work through the withdrawal. I am calling him tomorrow. I can't be falling and passing out from dizziness. And I HATE throwing up. I have a fear of throwing up. I guess that's good otherwise I would purge my food. I've already done enough damage with the anorexia.

dear maxime,
i have enough misery when my adderall stops working at a prescribed dose! i can't imagine going cold turkey without it. the few times i have, i've been a lump and haven't been able to function.
that said, your physical problems sound serious! i don't think stim withdrawal is supposed to be physically dangerous; that's more the case with sedatives. your pdoc should definitely take you seriously, if not for the physical reasons, then because cold turkey stim WD can cause major mood swings and crashes and other psych stuff that most pdocs should want to avoid.
good luck!
