I had no idea there was such a terrible withdrawal from Effexor. The worst part is that I wasn't even on it for 2 weeks.
I started taking it and was immediatley constipated to a point I couldn't eat. I stopped sleeping other than long enough to have excruciatingly wild and vivid dreams. I began weaning off it, even though I felt I shouldn't need to with only 2 weeks use. I weaned for 2 weeks and I'm still going through hell. It feels like it's getting worse rather than better. I have been taking antidepressents for years and have never experienced such a feeling.
The brain zaps and nausea are the worst. It feels good to sleep again and I'll be happy to be rid of the terrible dreams, but when will all this end so I can go back to feeling JUST terribly depressed.
The tips about prozac are good to hear, I'm going to try it, in hopes it will help eaze the withdrawal symptoms.Any other suggestions?

I am experiencing similar things with ceasing Lexapro after only 5 and a half weeks.
I am 2 weeks off the meds and still experiencing horrific depression, suicidal thoughts, weeping spells, and bizarre head feeling (plus the weird zaps!).I read on another website that the best thing to do is try to sedate your central nervous system as much as possibel when coming off of these things:
1) Drink lots of water and even fast if you can.
2) avoid caffeine and sugar during withdrawal.
3) avoid any chemicals to your brain; tylenol, vitamins, etc..
4) rest/sleep as much as you can
5) sit in a sauna if you have access to one.
I am trying to do all these things and still having a very, very hard time. But maybe with each passing day, our brain chemistry will get back in order.
This is the end of the thread.
