Smoking.. or not as the case may be

Posted by NikkiT2 on March 18, 2006, at 9:54:01

Just a quick update...

"10 weeks, 5 days, 15 hours, 43 minutes, 55 seconds since Nikki quit smoking. That is 1,513 cigarettes not smoked and £378.25 not spent on cigarettes."

Its been hard, but is getting easier. A day doesn't pass without me thinking about them, but it is easier.

I'm not a non-smoker, and I doubt I ever will be.

But I like having money to spend in my bank account.. I like being able to treat myself. I like being able to have a little money building up in a savings account for a planned treat.

I like not smelling. I like not being tied to the addiction. I like being able to slob on the sofa for an entire day without worrying about going out to buy ciggies.

I just read "A million little pieces" by James Frey. I like the "I will choose not to take that drug". So I choose not to smoke ciggerattes. I choose to no longer be addicted.

Nikki xx

I know what you mean about never really being a non-smoker. Its been approx one and a half years since I quit, but I do bum one once in a while when out drinking - even though that's what caused my last relapse after having quit for a year. I just tell myself I do the best I can and try not to beat myself up over it. I feel like I'll always be a smoker who just refrains from smoking.

I'm going for 5 months after quitting for the third time. You are right, the thoughts never ever go away, but it does get easier. It really does.

Well done on an outstanding achievement!!
