Unless you are taking an eighth of a pill, then I think it's much more serious than this post suggests.
A reuptake inhibitor and a serotonin agonist like ecstacy equals too much serotonin.
It will not be as if you are taking a stimulant like meth and nullifying the effects with valium or ativan which is what is used in hospitals to reduce amphetamine intoxication.
Otherwise, parents would put their kids on antidepressants before they went out, so their kids don't play with ecstacy.
SSRIs are not like opiate-blockers for heroin addicts.
SSRIs or an SNRI like effexor and E are not safe.
E also greatly increases norepinephrine which effexor works on too.

Hi Artist, here is a forum I ran across during a general search. Its theme is discussion of various illegal drugs, and combining them with prescription ones is also covered. Might want to check it out and do some searches there, although the posters here may be even more "scientific" about things. Maybe there will be some other useful links there too:

MDMA works at the reuptake pumps...blocking these sites would naturally decrease the pumps exposure to MDMA. MDMA is less selective to serotonin then most SSRIs (supported by the use of the very unselective SSRI, Prozac)...this is based on years of studies.
I agree that the combination isn't safe, but the danger has probably more to do with blood pressure then serotonin syndrome.

Well...I have to say I just did this over a month ago at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami....
I was worried at first, b/c I have mixed Lexapro and X with very bad results (very bad panic attack...worst in my life) but this time, I had the BEST time.
Now, this is definitely not something I do on a regular basis or would recommend to anyone, but this was a "special" occasion...big dance music festival with like 70,000 people and it was fabulous. I probably took six or seven pills in the course of a couple days and did fine. I'm on effexor-xr 150mg/day.
I think everyone is different...plus you're playing with a lot of factors you can't control...namely what is in the pills you're taking, what kind of psych problem you have, how much effexor you're on...even the people you are with and the mood you're in!
my 2 cents!

Hi PS, I just came across this totally by accident! I hadn't checked back because this was just one of those answers where you're passing by and throw in something you saw somewhere that could be useful to that poster, but isn't related to yourself. Sorry this took so long! Hope you found some more good info on this somewhere.
