Deathly Tylenol Overdose?...

Posted by fallingstar66 on November 3, 2003, at 0:07:07

Just wondering, does anyone know how many tylenols you have to take for it to be deathly? I know if you exceed the number on the bottle you can get liver problems..but how much to actually kill yourself? Thanks.

I'd rather this question weren't answered here. Are you feeling suicidal? In a crisis, please also get help in person...

Alright, I posted before asking how many tylenol or advil it would take to overdose so much you'd actually kill yourself. I had Dr. Bob reply telling me he thinks the question shouldn't be answered etc.

Won't -someone- just answer me?!
Please..

Yes, I realize that..but you're not the only one who has lost someone to suicide. x.x

Anyways..really if someone would tell me I'd be gone and then I wouldn't have to bug you with my questions. Think of it that way ^.^

my mother made so many suicide attempts and one was with aspirin/tylenol at 95 pounds she took over 100 and slept thru a weekend. so more than you would want to swallow im sure, but the worst part of suicide is the effect it has on those you leave behind. you dont just end your own life but ruin the lives of all those around you. take dr bobs advice and get some help-find someone to talk to --this a permanent solution to a temporary problem. why not try writing here to the board even, lots of good listeners here

Falling star....
Today my cousin is in an induced coma because of a tylenol overdose last night. I was wondering if what I heard was true and curious to know if I'll ever have the chance to say I love you to him again. I heard that when you overdose with tylenol it doesn't kill you right away. It usually takes 1-3 days for your liver to be fatally effected by it. So, if you decide, after you take the tyenol and don't die right away, that you don't want to die... IT'S TOO LATE. It's a slow, painful death and I'm praying so hard that I won't be attending yet ANOTHER funeral this week! If you are thinking about this... please seek help and reconsider. We love you! Jesus loves you...let HIM into your heart and let HIM be the one that takes you, NOT yourself.

I just got out of the hospital a little while ago because of a tylenol overdose. I took 30 or so extra-strength tylenol, but luckily for me i freaked out and told somebody and was rushed to the emergency room. It was the most painful ordeal of my whole life. I couldn't keep any medication down because i was drifting in and out of consciousness and was overly nautious. They had to put a tube down my nose and into my stomach to administer the antidote. After spending 5 days in ICU i was moved to the psychiatric ward and stayed there for 3 days. This is one question you don't want answered. I could have died and suffered permanent liver damage if i hadn't reacted so quickly. Think it over. Life is definately worth living, and this is not the way to go.

Few reported cases have been found in overdoses of Tylenol with less than xxx. Basically, what happens is that the Tylenol binds to the surface of the liver and "clogs" it up so it can't work. This is irreversible. As mentioned before, you go into liver failure pretty quickly. This is a particularly nasty death. It can take months of painful days and nights to die. I have seen it a few times and the outcome is never good and the individual involved always regrets the choice made. I agree with Dr. Bob on some things. Take it from a paramedic/RN - if you're thinking about it, please call and get some help. May God bless you.

My sympathy to all who have experienced Tylenol overdose or had such an experience with a loved one.

I am also very concerned about accidental Tylenol overdose - it happened to me, enough to cause moderate to severe liver pain, with the meds noted below. The enzyme which detoxifies Tylenol has a ceiling which is different depending on what shape your liver is in and what other meds you are taking -- exceed that ceiling, and the liver damage begins at once.

Few people know or are warned that an active alcoholic or heavy drinker should take _no more_ than 2 g. Tylenol -- two doses of 2 XS -- in 24 hr. There are many drugs that interact with Tylenol and lower the danger threshhold. I have had personal experience with Serzone, Trazadone and DM (aka DXM, in your friendly OTC cough-mixture).

That's a potentially lethal dose, isn't it? Bad for the liver. Do they give you n-acetyl-cysteine for it? Free radical damage? What kind of help would you like?
