...if you want to put a word or two in about how this board's substance use would differ from regular PB, and guidelines about acceptable ways of talking about substances (ie, not indicating how one obtains certain substances, especially illegal ones--or at least mostly illegal ones, or whatever rules you want here).

Also, is this about illegal substances? Or, more like substance abuse issues that would include addiction issues where the substance could be legal (alcohol, pain pills, xanax, etc.)?

Just thought I'd ask since I was not sure.

Hi Shar,
I was thinking people with issues (past or present) of substance abuse who now have to take psych or pain meds could talk about some of the grey areas around that. How different people manage, what's 'ok' by whose standards with meds like xanax, buprenorphine etc.

But that's just me!

And maybe it could be a supportive group for people trying to deal with their addictions, since so many people suffer from them.

You mean how it wouldn't include taking Prozac for depression, for example?

That's a good idea, thanks.

I think either...

I hope so!

Sober from what? Every thing or alcohol? How do you know when your an alcoholic? I've heard so many different things. I almost became an alcoholic, stoped short. I almost belived that I was, drinking every evening, was told that I wasn't though.

Sebastion:

Hi. I believe the only person who can tell you whether or not your an alcoholic is yourself. Only you truly know.

For myself, I didn't drink everyday, I didn't lose family, material things, etc. But, I did lose my spirit. So, the question I had to ask myslef was how did drinking make me feel? The next day, anyway.

I am an alcoholic, but I know of many who are more and less severe than myself. From school, I believe there are 3 stages of alcoholism: the beginning, the middle, and the chronic. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But, I think that's how they're classified.

It could be you were just a situational abuser who was lucky to stop before you crossed the line. This would be someone who drinks heavily for a period of time usually due to some negative event in one's life, then is able to recover from that without moving into chronic alcoholism.

Hope this helps in some way.
Take Care,
Arrianna

Hi Dr. Bob!

I'm just curious. How do you find the time to manage and keep track of all the psycho posts?? You must have alot of energy! Lol. Of course, you don't have to respond. I'm just amazed; that's all, and baffled.
