and of course Dave Chalmers was all about the Philosopher's Index.
The idea being to have an online database of all the work that had been Published in Philosophy.
Something something about how the research funding algorithms were working against Philosophy and the Arts because of the way that scientists typically worked with co and multi-authored papers and the way in which they have a lot of references (so that at the end of every sentence, just about, in the intro) they list all of the papers).
At one point I posted the reference chain letter on this site. Right? The ... reference each of these and add your name to the bottom. Don't break the chain of citation...
Riiight?
So, anyway, because Philosophers were single authoring roughly 5,000-7,000 word publications or single author books (rather than having a lab of, say, 10 people multi-authoring pretty much everything that came out of the lab... It looked like the Philosophy Post-docs publishing 1 or 2 articles per year were slacking compared to the Science Post-docs who would multi-author many more aritciles. especially or particularly stats guy who would do stats for everyone's paper in the school or whatever...
So teh Philosophers Index was supposed to be a way of getting higher Google hits or something that was going to cash out in (or in a case for) better funding for Arts. By having higher profile publication for Philosophy Papers since science papers were coming out online and Philosophy was behind expensive pay-wall.
Or similar. I don't really know or understand...

So you will say 'there are 4 positions in logical space' and there would be, perhaps 5 major authors associated with 3 of the positions and nobody would be crazy enough to be a proponent of the 4th position.
So then you would make your career on advocating the 4th position.
Then any article on the topic would start with the standard into to the topic and you would get your name as the only known proponent of the 4th position.
A mention (as an author) is a different thing from people thinking that you have something credible or worthwhile or good to say... But the algorithms no no difference and people write to and for the algorithms.
The computers generate the papers to exploit the algorithms.
Word salad word salad word salad.
So people need to self publish on their own webpage, for sure.
And then you provide a link to your own webpage and so on.

There used to be a post-modernist essay generator. It would generate something that was supposedly indistinguishable from the articles that are published in post-modernist journals.
It was a joke -- that isn't. In the same way that the 'don't break the chain of citation' blackmail chain letter was...
There are also 'post-modernist essay graders'.
There are also 'post-modernist maths question generators' and also grading softwares. So that you can tell people they fail their maths class or they fail the literacy requirement or whatever.
Garbage garble output.
I think that probably most of the 'work' that is credited to the professors and the like in the US Ivy League and the like will in fact turn out to be grading grinder or turn it in submissions from students in developing nations. Or from 'second tier' universities and the like. Places where they think they can easily or readily flunk the student out or bully them away so that people won't know that they have stolen their work.
I suppose the solution is to self-publish everything.
All your assignments and everything. Your college application letter. Everything. All of the things like that. The best guard you have against other people claiming it as their own is you publishing it yourself.
Of course then they could up the ante and imprison you or whatever... Take your website out or down.
If that is where things are at.
