In that case, I am proud to be a fucktard.

I've been called worse - and liked it.

i assume that tards is short for mentally retarded. to me tards is the problem and every person i see on the internet that uses that word i will talk to. it makes me angry and shows me all i need to know about a person. because that person doesn't have the vocabulary to be decent. instead they use a word for one of gods children who just happened to be born with a huge disadvantage but with a huge heart. this board is seething with a few people that only know hate and i can't think of a more repulsive trait.

>> we can't say ***k, but we can say ***ktards?

Unless my memory is wrong, I think it's actually either that:

(1) posters have their auto-asterisking turned off, or;

(2) Dr. Bob will have to conform this is still so, but it's just a function of the software...or a limitation, I should say.

It only catches the precise words programmed into it and there is no way to conceive of every permutation of those words. So, making any commonly known offensive word into even a slightly unusual compound word like the one you mentioned defeats the auto-asterisking.

For example...

sh*t NOPE

sh*th**d NOPE (pretty commonly used)

shittyhead YUP - gets through

shitheadface YUP - gets through

f*ck NOPE

fuckface YUP (huh-apparently not common enough, at least to the programmer of the lexicon <shrug>)

For me, the problem part of the word is the last part, not the f-word. I don't like references to mentally challenged folks being thrown around as curses. It's ignorant.

Being born slowed down in some way mentally (retarded) really has nothing to do with acting like an idiot, f*ck face, or jackwagon, does it? The former isn't a choice. The latter are..in most cases - and are matters of perspective and opinion.

I know Scott and others didn't mean it that way, or probably even think of it, but still....it makes me sad.

OMgoodness, Phil, my man :-))

I like you better every month, week, day.

Look at the end of my post just above.

Great and nutty minds think alike, yeah? !!

Although, maybe give some a break...they may not have realized that part being focused on the other issues, right?

I know Scott and Willful, etc., are not hateful or indecent. Just human.

I would never in my wildest thoughts use the word ***k***ds. It has nothing to do with my being "human" (thanks for the condescension).

I was simply quoting what LostBoy said, as I'm sure Scott was. In an earlier draft, I asterisked out the second part of the word, but it seemed not to make much sense that way. By piquant, by the way, I was trying ironically to suggest offensive.

As far as I"m concerned, and I assume the same is true of Scott, any words demeaning classes of people whether ethnic, racial, age=related, or disability-related are totally unacceptable. I absolutely never use them--except possibly when quoting someone, and even then I'm hesitant. In this case, I was clearly using it to reflect back on Lost Boy, not in themselves.

This board is mostly, not all but mostly, full of drama queens. I cant say a thing on here, I cant use any slang, I cant use any colorful language, I cant say anything even the slightest bit "unfair" to somebody, somewhere...without being castigated by SOME DRAMA QUEEN on psychobabble.

America...land of the free, home of the BRAVE. Yeah right...more like home of the super sensitive drama queens who think "life must be fair" to everybody, all of the time.

You have truly misunderstood the intention of what I was saying to Phil. Actually...I was saying to Phil what you are saying to me, pretty much.

I guess you can talk to Phil about what words posters do, did, would, could, ever, never use...whatever. (I am just lost now.) I was responding to how *he* described others and maybe I included you by mistake just to touch on all the good folks in the thread I knew weren't the way he describes. So sorry.

I was mistaken, I thought maybe you or Scott or anyone might have not even noticed that aspect of the word when repeated since you were focused on the first part of it. I didn't know you were perfectly on top of everything at all times, 'cause I never am. I pictured myself easily spacing that out, at least at fist. I guess it's just me.

I have a mentally retarded cousin, and another acquaintance who struggles similarly. Even so, I still, decades and decades after teaching myself not to blurt out that word, slip up and say it when I'm excited or emotional. "You're retarded!" was such a common expression and no one even blinked at the use of the word for the first 25+ years of my life that it did not leave my vocabulary until I gained wisdom and awareness and deliberately removed it. But, words are ingrained deeply and they pop out uninvited sometimes. For me. I'm clearly deeply flawed.

To be human and possible mis-write (including repeating) something (yes, I know you did not do that because you NEVER could - stupid me) is a bad thing? What shall we do then? How can we exist - isn't that perfection? Are there posters here who are godlike?

Condescending? <shakes head> I thought after all this time you might know me better. Doesn't that require me to be looking down from somewhere? Hard to do when I often think I am lower than snot and generally inadequate, especially when I see your writing, Scott's writing, Twinleaf's writing, et al, so on and so forth, so many gifted Babblers.

I'm a work in progress who is still a lot of crap things but condescending isn't one of them.

Speaking only for myself, I most certainly acknowledge the archaic and disparaging nature of the "tard" words. I guess that didn't come through in my attempt to lampoon. I can see how my words didn't really make that clear. I'm glad you pointed that out.

Just so you all know, "libtard" is not a word I invened or anything. Its slang talk within the gun culture, the hard right gun culture, to describe people who are democrats of the progressive political streak. Those who think that money comes out of nowhere and that "healthcare and education can be free." Nothing in this world except for air, is "free." People who think otherwise are informally derided as "libtards."

Liberal--retard.
