Hi Alex,
> have you started yet?
>
I started on January 28.> is it pretty full on after not having had a job for a while?
>
It's real full on, just getting out of bed early enough to get to work on time is hard.> a bit of a shock?
>
Definitely a shock, I had a few short term temp jobs, but hadn't worked a fulltime job in over a year.> are the people okay?
>
Assuming I'm reading them right they all seem real nice. I've gotten "welcome" and "you're doing a good job" emails which make me feel like I am actually wanted and appreciated. I have major scars left from my last job where they obviously hated me and I didn't see it until they fired me.> do you have far to commute?
>
It's about a 20 minute drive, while it's cold out I'm paying for parking in a covered structure that's a block away from the office. When it's warmer I'll probably do a much cheaper lot about a 15 minute walk to the office.> do you have a uniform?
>
No, "business casual" so a nice pair of slacks and a sweater is okay.> what do you eat for lunch??
I'm bringing my lunch, so far it's been salads or frozen microwavable meals. There's lots of food there: left overs from attorney conferences end up in the kitchen area on my floor. I'm the thinnest one in my department so they're like "you're skinny" eat. I am not skinny.Poet

I'm so happy to hear that things are going well for you!!! Damos sends his regards. To partlycloudy, too. I hope he won't mind my saying that he has just started a new job. I'm encouraging him to come post about things himself :)
It isn't happening for me now... But it will at some point... 8am lectures. Which isn't crazy given that I have no commute and some people commute to work in over an hour... But still... Right now... I think the shock might kill me. Honestly. It killed Descartes.
I've been a grad student for far too long... But I know that when you have a schedule that you have to do... You just do... Because you have to. And after a while it simply becomes routine. And mostly.. Mostly.. I feel a lot better with routine. Even though grumbling about it is pretty fun / standard, too.
I really am so happy for you that things are going well! Really very!!!

(Thanks, Alex!)
Great to hear about the job, Poet. Much better to adjust to full time employment than the other way around.
I hope the good experiences continue...

So far it's going so good it's scary. I hope I'm reading them correctly that they like me and want to keep me. Monday I got a call from my manager (who's in another State) and she started with "there's a problem." My heart started pounding until she said "not with you." Are you willing to help someone with their files? Of course, I said an excited yes.
