5-0

Posted by gadchik on December 12, 2013, at 5:38:00

Im now in my fifth decade...metabolism has slowed, butt has flattened and dropped, adding insult to injury, knee sag. Oh well, Im done chasing youth! Something else has arrived...contentedness, acceptance : )

Happy birthday! I am one up on you. I found lots of big shifts in confidence, self acceptance, acceptance, and I generally like where I am now more than where I have been in my younger years.

Have a great day!

Hi Gadchik,

Wow, you stared 50 in the face and like what you see. I refuse to admit being, gulp, 56 and use a friend's birthday who is only 48. I know, she'll hit 50 and then I'll have to use someone younger.

I am not taking aging with grace, so glad you and PC can. Maybe there's hope for me, at least Dr. Oz says so about metabolism.

I have some older pals, and I love it when they say, "this is our young friend"!! The bummer for me is, my hubby is 7 yrs younger, sooo he wont see 5-0 for some time, and it makes me feel ancient!

i usually start processing birthdays and new years ahead of time. that way when they actually occur i put the clock forward again and end up thinking i'm years ahead. so then i get to feel young when people put me straight ha!

i think the acceptance and contentment are more valuable than the superficialities of youth. if only we got the superficialities when we were old enough to properly appreciate them! or if only we got the benefits of age when we were young enough to... i don't know... profit from them then.

i remember all the way back to puberty... how unhappy i was with my body. remembering how i felt. then i look at the odd photo and i'm a normal kid. nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about... i feel less ashamed of my body now than i ever have before though objectively it has only been going downhill...

there are more important things in life. or... different things become important.

i like how age brings contentment and peace. often. i wonder if it is because you gradually get more control over your life... and if... generally speaking... people know what is best for them more than other people do. and so... that is how we become happier. perhaps.

:)

I know I take better care of myself, as a middle aged person! No more late nights in a smoke filled bar...go to bed promptly at 9, up early. Hike miles everyday. Eat properly, do things I want to do, no more children to look after...I never took time for me before!
