I've been looking at sex stuff :/

Posted by Deneb on February 3, 2012, at 1:40:07

I don't know what's come over me, because I usually consider myself asexual and I'm not usually into sex, but lately I've been searching for sexual materials online.

I haven't really been talking my SSRI's regularly, I wonder if they had been suppressing my sex drive or something.

I saw a bit of porn, but then I read that those women are really taken advantage of. Well I've discovered that I like reading stories more anyways.

I'm not sure how I feel about these new sexual feelings.

Things were just simplier when I didn't think of sex at all.

This sounds like a good step forward towards being more fully you. Do you have the support and advice of your pdoc in cutting down on the SSRIs? As you know, they are notorious for diminishing or abolishing sexual feelings, but you don't want to go too fast and risk losing all the gains you have made. But if you could manage well on lower doses it would be great.

Well since I've started to only see my pdoc once a month instead of twice a month, it's harder to keep on track of taking meds and stuff on a daily basis, but I told her about me inadvertantly decreasing my dose and she was OK with it as long as I still felt OK.

I got her OK to take 20 mg Celexa now instead of 30 mg. I had just decreased on my own for a while because I found it a pain to split my pills.

I didn't tell her about my forgetting to take Prozac all the time though. I'm taking 60 mg of Prozac maybe like 3 times a week now. I know it has a super long half life and I think that's why I haven't experienced any side effects from the decrease.

I can feel if I skip the Celexa for 2 or 3 days though.

I still feel well with the decrease.

I've been taking SSRI's for a long long time, like almost half of my life. I wonder if they are why I've never been into sex. I didn't miss what I didn't know so it wasn't a big deal for me. Or maybe I'm just more into sex now because I have a sort of boyfriend now. We've never met in person though.

Maybe taking SSRI's for so long (and also while my brain was still developing) has changed my brain so that I can live without them? I dunno. I hope so!

It sounds as though no permanent damage was done!
Your brain has probably matured in a lot of favorable ways through your 20's, independent of the medication.

It sounds like you have enough input from your pdoc to make good medication choices.
