The average is about 25-35 words per min. I have been practicing and the fastest I have gone about 55 wpm. I tend to slow down on words that have wierd spelling, or especially the 10-key stoke with numbers. When im doing that I type about 14 numbers per min.
Does any one know if there is still such thing as "Typist??" you know.. most secrretaries and court reporters and data entry postions usally have to have about 65-75 word per min. But is there still such thing as a Typist?
Oh don't forget to type a little info for me on how fast you type;;))

Well no one actually "types" anymore and firms don't hire "typists" but instead there are data entry clerks and administrative assistants. 55 words-per-minute is pretty fast. When I was younger and people still used typewriters, my husband could type about 60 wpm and would type my papers for me. I was a hunt and peck kind of typist, though I've gotten a bit faster.

Yea...data entry positions today Im practicing to try to at least get one. My maximum speed is 55 wpm but that's when It's at its peak, my average is around 35-40 depending if I spell and punctuate correctly. I thought that I should find a skill that I would be good at, and use it daily. Yea, I have seen some keyboarders up all the way at 220wpm in youtube.
There's a diffrent kind of keyboards. One is called a "Dvorak"[ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvorak_Simplified_Keyboard] which was redesigned from the regular keyboard called a "QWERTY" which is the one your using right now. It was designed to increase the speed and make it easier to type faster. Still I would hate to relearn all my keyboard skills. I'm sticking with the one I have.
