I used to work a full time job and my depression got so bad. Now I want to go back to the way I sued to be. A functioning human being. So I just thought I would ask that question. You don't have to go into detail unless you want to because I am not trying to pry. I was just wondering how many here work a full time job, that's all. Not what you do, or where you work and so on. Thanks.

I work full time, and it contributes a lot to my instability. In fact, I sorta think I wouldn't need meds if it weren't for the job.
it is quite demanding
but it is paying the bills, and keeping me from drowning in all the debt I've accumulated AND it give me health insurance
I wish I could make less money, I'd work less and be a healthier person.

Been on Disability for 15 years and know that I couldn't do what I used to do I'd crack in half. But staying home isn't fun either. I loved my job. I quite with my first mistake can't afford to make them when nursing another's life is at stake. Phillipa

Manic, your advise was priceless!!!! The part that really 'helped' or 'resonated' with me was to not be standoffish with the other employees and to join in the banter. I tend to stand off and not make friends when I have a job. Be it part time or full time. The people don't exactly find me endearing because of it and I can tell I am not part of the inner circle. I can't blame them because I go to work all serious. You were right on the money about that. Joining in the banter is important so that the others don't treat you "strange" if you are quiet and standoffish. I have caused people not to like me because of that. Alot. Also you were really helpful about getting a job that is not mentally demanding. So true. Thanks.

I work full time but I've been on leave since Dec. I'm supposed to go back the end of March and I'm worried whether I'll be able to. I've worked when really depressed before (and wanted to die every day), but this time it's worse and I'm afraid it will drive me to suicide (either from the stress of the job or from losing it).

I just got up and went each day and wanted to die every day. No one was supervising me very closely so I spent time staring at the wall mostly just thinking about how long it was til I could go home. Now I think I will be supervised more closely and won't get away with spending all my time staring at the wall, hence losing my job.

Peanut that amazing as I couldn't have done that in nursing as you have to up and about and very physically busy and with starting IV's, giving out meds concentration has to be good. My last evening of work made my first med error no biggie as charge nurse in psych and just gave a slightly higher dose of a sleeper. Then that night I besides being charge had the narcotic keys as had to give all meds and do all groups also and took the keys home by mistake. Had to get them back to hospital within an hour or the keys had to be changed on the med cart at the time. So I realized I could not do my job efficiently so went on first short term disability and then the government disability. I miss my job but recognize couldn't handle the stress anymore. Love Phillipa

Now that I'm off my medical I am back to work full time.
It is extremely hard going back after being carefree (in a way) for so long.
I definitely wish I could afford to be part-time. Working like this stinks and ruins any happiness I get from the money I make.
