Family rifts

Posted by rnny on December 16, 2009, at 16:30:01

I have read a good book on family rifts. There are rifts in my nuclear and extended family that make having loving, supportive and respectful relationships an impossibility. Am I alone here?

I have no contact at all with my mother's side of the family. My mom passed away in 2001 and had strained relationships with her parents and siblings before that. I'm very close to my dad's side of the family and they don't like my mom's side at all. So, it's really just been the path of least resistance to lose all contact with my mom's side. This is sad since I think I'm missing the social support of half my relatives, but I wonder how much social support they would be anyway as I think they have their own issues.

I haven't talked to my sister in years her choice as she would call on the phone late at night and I dont like to talk on the phone. So that was it. My own kids just ignore me as they are grown and gone different states and all. So no you are definitely not alone and this time a year it's horribly sad and lonely. Phillipa
