Does this seem excessive? This was for an outpatient consultation with a neurologist at a state teaching hospital that lasted all of 15 minutes.
And for some reason, my insurance isn't covering it.
(on the bill it says "Level 5 consult"... dunno what that means)
Not sure what I can do other than raising a stink with their billing department and my insurance company.
Health care costs are really out of control.

Unfortunately sounds about right. I wonder if google gives any neuro rates? Why won't insurance pay for it what was it for? Phillipa

That sounds outrageous to me for 15 min. You should at least get an hour for that. But, I am, of course, not an expert but merely someone who does not have $800 to spend on a neuro consult!

So it turns out they billed an old insurance policy of mine, not my current one.
But the outrage continues - the total they submitted to the insurance company was $222.
(The insurance paid all of it)
So, this hospital seems to bill individuals almost 4x as much as they bill the insurance carriers for the exact same thing.
How is this legal?
