Me again!

Posted by paxvox59 on September 30, 2009, at 13:52:37

Hey ya'll. I'm dropping in again to say hi. I know, I pop in an out like the Sun on a cold winter morning. Finally (after nearly a year) got to see a REAL Pdoc yesterday (though I had to pay $200 I don't really have). One of those good news-bad news situations: Sure, he's willing to help me, but can I afford him? He still uses Remeron with some of his patients, but I told him I wanted off of it. Celexa was what we finally came up with (based as much on what I can "afford" as what might be best for me). Not much else new going on with me. Still no job, and money about shot. I am about to "officially" become a Maryland resident, so I remain hopeful that this state will have some better low (no!) income medical aid available for me. I am a bit pensive about starting this Celexa. I just don't know...

Hi Pax.

How are you enjoying Maryland?

Oh welcome back!!!

I am so glad to hear from you!

I was on Celexa for about 4 years. I found it pretty good regarding side effects/or lack of them. I did affect my memory though.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((you)))))))))))))))))))

Kath

PS - some drug companies give reduced or free drugs to those who can't afford them. Some people here probably know about it - maybe on Meds board, but please don't leave the social board!

:-)

Kath you have mentioned memory loss before with celexa in what way did it affect your memory? I took it for a month once and just made me extremly horribly tired? Love Phillipa

~ ~ Hi Phillipa, It didn't affect me within a month. Since my memory is bad, I can't remember exactly what happened at first...or how soon it started. But it did affect it to the extent that I'd say, "Oh I forgot that; my memory is bad lately." or something like that & I actually had friends say, yes they noticed!

I would have thought that would be an easy question to answer. But it isn't really. I know that my memory has gotten worse over the last couple of years, but I've been off Celexa during that time, so I don't link that with Celexa.

I'll ask my daughter if she remembers, or can tell me how it affected me. I feel sort of silly not being able to tell you!! LOL

Kath

PS - a friend started taking it maybe a year ago & also has noticed memory problems! The part that bothered me was that when I stopped taking it, I really hoped my memory would return to what it had been before, but it didn't.

My memory NOW is quite crappy. For example, last night, my husband left his car parked on the road so that I could put my car in first, & it wouldn't need to be moved this morning for DH to drive out early. So, last nite about 10 pm DH asked, "Did you bring my car in when you got home?" (I had said I would.) I said, "Oh, no - I'll bring it in now." Then I realized I Might have! So asked him to look out the window & sure enough, I'd brought it in. Then I tried to remember, & what I could remember was walking out to the car with the keys in my hand...not actually driving it in. And now, when I think of it I actually can remember driving it in! Weird. Sometimes I can dredge up things...this morning I was trying to remember where I'd seen a little table out at the edge of the road yesterday (People put things they don't want on the edge of the road in hopes of someone being able to use them.) It took about 5 minutes before I could remember where I'd seen it, but now that I've remembered it's quite clear in my memory! Yikes. Things like that happen ALL the time...only sometimes I can't retrieve the memory at all.

Oh, MD is OK. Not too different from the Northern VA suburbs that I grew up in. Clearly, this whole area is a change from living in SC as I did from 1992-this past Fall. I just got myself a MD I.D., so now I can check to see what free or reduced-cost services might be available.

~ ~ Good PAX - keep in touch so we know how it's going for you.

Hello Paxvox,

I'm glad you finally saw a pdoc. Celexa is a really nice med. It is a very selective drug. Lexapro is basically the same thing, just without one of the enatantimers. The active molecule is the same in both meds, it's just that Lexapro is way more expensive. I'm on Celexa. I think it is good. I hope it works for you too.
