I recently started taking vitamin E for my heart, (NOW brand of Gamma E complex)which includes mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols, and not only did my 54 year old memory improve, my ocd symptoms decreased substantially as well. I have known for some time that glutamate is implicated in the psychopathology of ocd, and have recently learned that alpha tocotrienol blocks damage to brain cells from glutamate, and I wonder if this is why my ocd has improved.

Welcome! And my 62 year old memory (or LACK thereof) really needs a boost. I'm buying some tomorrow!!!
Thanks so much, Kath
PS - I'm in Ontario, Canada. Is NOW brand Canadian? I buy quite a lot of their stuff; like that brand.

That's really interesting and wonderful it helps you out.
I recently bought the gamma, mixed type vitamin E you mentioned. I took it one night along with CO-Q10, and I got shortness of breath and my spleen hurt and it was tender. I've never noticed my spleen before.lol.but I looked up an anatomy chart online, and that was exactly what hurt after taking those 2 things. The shortness of breath scared me away from supplements and things.
My son took the Gamma E and got nauseau from it. I told him what happened to me, and he doesn't want to take it anymore either.
Ever since, I don't take much supplements. I'll take Vit B one day, fish oil every other day, then Magnesium Citrate the next, etc. I'm afraid to take them all at once or even in one day. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, and like to think that's enough, but there are so many supplements and amino acids out there, and I am certainly not in excellent health, so I wonder what to do.
I've read too that the soils lack the nutrients of 50 years ago, and the gene splicing/ development of pest resistant crops may play a role in decreased vitamins in our produce.

Hi Garnet,
I take tons of supplements. That must have been pretty scarey.
I do 'muscle testing' to see what makes my body stronger or weaker.
luv, Kath going to bed now.

Hi :-))
Yeah - I think it can be called that also.
You can do it using the arm to test. I prefer the finger-test.
I hold my left thumb & ring finger together forming a circle, & try to keep them together. The 'tester' part might be hard to describe...
The person who is testing, takes their thumbs & index fingers of both their hands, & make 'rings' into the circle I've made. The tester tries to pull my finger & thumb circle open. (It's NOT a contest - just a test for muscle strength/weakness.)
You do the test first to get a 'baseline' strength indication. Then I would hold the bottle of vitamins I want to test against my wrist & repeat the whole thing with the tester & myself exerting the same amount of effort as the first time.
It can be really surprising how certain vitamins/herbs/etc can REALLY strengthen a person. Sometimes I've experienced that the tester can't even get my 'circle' apart!!! Or sometimes the result can be that I am weakened.
I've done the test both as tester & tested.
