OK, I got the idea of wine drinking from these articles I read, about how red wine is good for you in moderation. LOL
I read that the Cabernet Sauvignon variety had the most antioxidants or something.
So....I bought a bottle. Uncorking it was a major struggle since I didn't have a fancy de-corker LOL.
Well, finally I got it uncorked.
Articles recommend 4 ounces a day. I think I poured about 2 ounces out.
I drank some. YUCK. ROFL It's awful.
I'm forcing myself to drink 2 ounces a day now until the bottle is empty. LOL It's like taking some digusting medicine. ROFL
Anyone want a bottle of wine?

I think grapes are the same with the antioxidants you don't have to drink wine. Love Phillipa

Phillipa is right, to the extent the studies can be "sure." It's not an exact thing quite yet, but really interesting. Grape juice is "probably" the same and so, so sweet and delicious. Buy true concord grape, not white though (I love the white.) The Mayo Clinic says this:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/food-and-nutrition/AN00576
I don't care for that variety of wine either, (although I love several types of white wine) More importantly, there's something to be said, I think, for relaxing, savoring and truly enjoying food and drink. I think we were meant to nourish our amazing bodies AND enjoy doing that. So if you hate the taste, why drink it? Food doesn't have to be unpleasant medicine.
Another thought - what if, one day, they discover the brain activity as you anticipate drinking something you detest every day - the accompanying stress, tension - triggers release of certain substances, and Those Cancel Out the benefits of the wine? That would s**k! Just an interesting thought - to me ;-)
I think it's great you are researching and looking for healthy ways of eating while you are young. It's a wise thing to do and an example for others.

Hi Deneb,
It's not one of my favorites, either. Maybe try a Shiraz or a Merlot? I love wine, and suggest you find a place where you can do wine tasting, then you can taste a bunch of them and figure out which, if any, you like.
MMM...wine.

I like the advice about wine tastings to learn what you like.
Personally, I don't like Merlot very much, pretty actively dislike Zinfindels, and do like Cabernets a great deal. They're so round on my tongue...
Different tastes...
I also like 10der's musings about the stress of drinking what you dislike canceling any benefits. 10der and I share that sort of -- sorry, 10der, gotta say it -- dorkiness/geekiness. And I absolutely agree with her that enjoying one's food and drink is important. I used to make my Grandma breakfast in the mornings, and she liked oatmeal and Cream of Wheat, but sometimes she'd ask for Malt-O-Meal -- because she thought it was good for her, even though she didn't like it. (I do like Malt-O-Meal, so it was a little hard for me to understand, but again -- different tastes, eh?) And those days she wouldn't finish breakfast, and she would not have such a great day. Much better to eat something you like and enjoy it.
Deneb, I also think wine tasting might be a good idea for you for some other reasons. I think you might learn something about the sensuality of food and wine. I think that would be good for you, because I have always gotten the sense of you as someone who lives between her own ears. Mostly that's where I live, and I know it's caused some problems for me. All the things I've done that brought other senses into awareness have improved my life in some way, and maybe this would be a good one for you to consider. (Besides, wine tasting if fun! Just remember one thing, especially as small as you are: the slops jar is there for a very, very good reason. Use it.)

I like Riunite Lambrusco. I cannot drink much because I am too sensitive to the alcohol. They have those berry juice blends from health food stores that include pomengranate, goji berry, etc.
Those are a good source as well...Peace

Thanks for all the replies!
Wine tasting sounds like a great idea. Where do I go for them?
I tried the Cabernet again tonight. This time I sipped it really slowly. It wasn't as bad. LOL Maybe I drank it too fast last time.
This is the end of the thread.
