Is this a good idea? There is a recent study that says it's very healthy and prolongs life and keeps disease away.
I'm going to try to eat healthy overall.
I'll add dark chocolate and green tea to the mix as well.
I'm replacing diet coke with decaf green tea, both iced and hot.
I'll have a small piece of dark chocolate everyday.
I think I'll also start drinking maybe half a cup of red wine a day. I don't usually drink or like alcohol, but there's evidence that moderate consumption of red wine is good.
Other stuff on my list:
Almonds, apples, blueberries, broccoli, red beans, salmon, spinach, sweet potatoes, vegetable juice, wheat germ, olive oil, cranberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, oatmeal, whole grain bread, brown rice, wild rice, barley, millet, quinoa, apricots, avocados, cantaloupe, figs, lemons, limes, onions, articokes, ginger, squash, watercress, arugula, garlic, lentils, peanuts, pinto beans, sardines, herring, tomatoes, eggs, fish oil

Deneb,
From what I've learned in class, the Mediterranean diet only works when you combine the six main things that they eat. The only thing I can remember from the list is olive oil and there was a certain type of fish... i don't remember. If I remember, each element isn't that great for you unless you combine with another element of the diet. Like olive oil -- it's not a great oil for you (Canola is way better), but when you combine it with (I think) some nutrient from the fish, it helps your body absorb some nutrient which isn't normally absorbed. I think another element of the diet was the amount of sun they get. The amount of vitamin D helped some other process. So, if you are going to follow the Mediterranean Diet do it carefully. Really research it and make sure you are actually able to follow it. In general, a well balanced, varied diet is much better than a strict one.

It truly is good for you. Keep us posted on how it goes.Peace
