Help, how to keep porn off my kids PC accounts?

Posted by Happyflower on June 12, 2008, at 0:44:34

How do I change their account settings? My daughter got onto a link when she looked up something, which should have been a kid's site, but it was slightly different address and porn came up. Plus I couldn't get rid of it because it would keep reloading when I clicked off the site.
I am not against porn really, but when it comes to targeting my kids, it is upsetting and wrong.

Does anyone know how to set controls?

I won't let my kids on until I can get some controls set and since my computer is fixed after a week of it not working, they are driving me nuts.

The site my daughter was looking up was for Nintendo Place, searching on Google, and it linked with a porno site with the only difference in the address was a period from the site she was looking for.

This was very crude XXX stuff, she was quite upset about it, I think she lost some of her innocence because of it.
I use Comcast, and have a Dell if that matters. Please help!

hi Happy,
If you want to restrict your Google search engine--when you pull up Google--look to the right of the search space(where you type in what you want) and there will be a word that says, "Preferences"---click on that and select the little button that says something like Strict---there are three choices--do not filter, moderate filter and strict If you still need more assurances--you can call comcast tech support--i'm pretty sure it's free to all comcast customers--they can help you with any questions --that's their job and usually they're good at it. The number is 1-800-266-2278 or 1-888-737-8361. good luck

Here is the result of a Google search: (there is some paid and some free stuff. )

I hope that helps. (P.S. Yes I agree..I really have no problems with most porn, just that little eyes should not ever be subjected to that stuff.)

Best,
Jay
