Yup, it's 1 a.m.

And, yup, I just got home from Walgreen's. Is that weird? I couldn't sleep, there were some things I wanted, and they were open. I did see a lady there I'm afraid of becoming, though. She was going through the messy clearance end cap with a fine tooth comb and it looked like this was a common late night thing for her.

Anywho, the not being able to sleep thing isn't new, but right now I know it's because of some father interactions over the past couple of days. I need my mind constantly occupied because of them.

the world is a completely different place at night (trust me, I used to be in a band). It has it's own inhabitants, it's own rules and it's own little norms.

Night people are very tolerant of other night people, but appear to want to be left alone by day people.

Day people can be very judgemental of night people I think.

At night, people are a lot freer to be who they are, whether it's just sitting on a park bench and singing, digging through piles of stuff in a clearance bin, or sitting at the waffle house alone and morose.

The oddest time of the day for me was always between 4 and 5 am. That's usually when we were finished loading out and trying to get something to eat.

It was right at this time when you would see the two worlds begin to mix. There are very few places open at that hour and run-ins would be inevitable. Denny's is the worst for this.

Work trucks began to dot the parking lot.
You could just feel the resentment on the part of the night people as the early morning workers, deliveries and papers began to arrive.
Their time was ending and it was back "underground" for them, at least for that day.

Being in a band, we never really fit in with the night people, but they would tolerate how loud, obnoxious and just stupid we actually were. We must have seemed very very glaring in their dark world. On the other hand, musicians don't seem to fit in anywhere I guess.

Seldom

Just my thoughts, hope you get to sleep soon.

seldom, what an interesting post!

I'm firmly a day person, but I turned nocturnal the year in college when I was taking organic chem and mol. bio. That was a tough year. I spent lots of quality time at the local denny's plugged into an outlet to type a paper or lab report. Eating key lime pie or an ice cream sundae and free coffee refills for hours and hours.

Around 2:30 am the strippers would come in for dinner (or is it breakfast)?

The cops meet them there and ask them how their kids are doing and whether they saw such-and-such?

Babble seems like a place where night and day people from different continents can meet and play together, perhaps

Oh yeah strippers and cops are definately night people.

A cop that has been on the nightwatch for years is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. in my opinion. Very tolerant, less "this is my world and you just live in it" and very very protective of his folks. Night cops know the regulars and the ones looking to them harm. It's nice. It's a family really.

It seems like all of the outcasts from the day end up in the night world. Imagine if a bunch of strippers walked into Chili's at 6:00 pm.

But they fit right in at 3:30 am in the waffle house, they aren't judged, they are just people earning a living.

I must admit, I've been fascinated by this dichotomy for years and years. I used to be really afraid of the dark, but I've learned, just like most things, it is inhabited by some really good, albeit commonly misunderstood, things.

I'm a night person always have been since worked 3-ll but only now do we stay up til 2am but at the house reading. Problem is workers building behind us wake us at six and I feel horrible with no sleep. I try to convince H to sleep earlier but routine says otherwise and he doesn't need sleep. Love Phillipa ps too old to be a hooker.

You were brave to go out alone at that time of night.
