Does anyone here name their cars?

Posted by Racer on January 25, 2008, at 11:02:30

I've only owned two cars, but they've both had names. The first was Shasta -- 'cause Shasta have gas, Shasta have oil. The second is Carmilla, named after the short story by J. Sheridan Le Fanu. It took a while for each of them to tell me their names, but they did eventually.

My mechanic names his cars. He even asked me the names of my cars, which are on the paperwork for them at his place -- he *always* calls them by their names.

Does anyone else name their cars? If so, where do the names come from?

Hi Racer,

I not only name them, but their name is the personalized license plate.

Car One: 1967 Mustang Convertible (inherited from my mother) she called it "Little Love" and my sister called it "Barnes" because it was yellow with a black top and it looked like a guy in a band named Barnes.

Car Two: 1975 Mustang, I named it Morgan after the other guy in the band.

Car Three: 1986 Renault Alliance, Winston after Mr. Churchill, as England was part of the alliance during WWII.

Car Four: 1994 Eagle Summit named McKinley because it's a summit, aren't I clever?

Car Five: 1999 Saturn named Boojum. The Snark was a boojum you see. Husband's car is named Snark. It's from the Hunting of the Snark by Lewis Carroll.

No, but I used to name my plants in my 'youth'...I'd forgotten about that. Now I have so many plants, I'd probably forget their names. I have 8 orchid plants for starters!

I have a huge butterfly kite that I allowed my "inner child" to name..."Starfire".

My car doesn't have a name, but I do feel affection for it!!!

Cool about the mechanic putting the names on the work orders.

:-) Kath

Three cars have had names. Misty was a Mercury Mystique. Penny was a copper colored dodge. The Blomber was a blue colored buick that was so bad off it became "the bomb."

I didn't give it a proper name per se, but when I drove a honda crx

http://www.metricmind.com/images/honda_crx.jpg

I called it the "escape pod" - as in QUICK to the escape pod.

I cried when I left that car on the lot with 273,000 miles and ~15 years after I bought it.

Seldom.

i had a 75 cadillac, named 'the white whale' for obvious reasons. i also had a corsica named charlotte sometimes, because sometimes she ran and sometimes she didn't. i never did name the escort without a back windshield. i only had feelings of anger towards that car and didn't want to push my luck by giving him (yeah, that one was male) a name. i haven't found a fitting name for my car now. nothing seems appropriate at this point.

My daughter has a 2004 yellow new beetle convertible that she calls Buggy and EVERYONE calls her BUGGY. all her friends, my family, everyone. Buggy even has a myspace page with pictures and friends!!!! photos etc....even the guys at the college my daughter attends call the car Buggy. It is funny the car has her own persona....but then my daughter names everything. And then most everything gets a nickname except Buggy her name has stick in its original name form.

Are you thinking of naming your new baby?
