This is driving me nuts -- am I a dork? Or a geek? My husband and I have debated this fairly regularly, but have come to no conclusions. Please help?
THank you very much.

I was going to say geek.
But then I wondered.
How big are your ears?

sorry, this coming from someone with very strong eyes :)
my husbands a geek, due to his poor eye sight. (and i tease him all the time about his four eyes. i call everyone with glassses four eyes, but only because it's so ridiculous. and i do tend to 'date' those with four eyes. but i'm a bitch, if i'm going to go aroudn stereotyping.)

i'd have to say neither (unless of course you do wear glasses). longwidned perhaps :). knowledgable, yes, on many subjects. so, that would make you intelligent, no?

lol
For the record, yes -- I wear glasses. I wear thicker glasses than your husband. At least, I can virtually guarantee it.
But they took away my pocket protector, so I know I'm not a nerd.

well, it does take one to know one, doesn't it? if you've ever read my posts, they do tend to go on and on (and on and on) only, mine seems to be filled with dribble mostly about nothing (and about the opposite of nothing (being me of course).
so, take the long winded part as a compliment, my dear :) oh, adn if you could hear me talk sometimes. i could talk one's ear off.... leading to declan's question.. bout them ears..... if they happen to be big, give me a call and i could talk half of one off, you can switch ears, and i can talk the other half off....
i'm completely in love with chevy chase and the lead character from 'revenge of the nerds' (dr mark green from 'er'). does that make me a nerd? or a geek? i know (or used to) way too much about directing live newscasts (and was WAY too excited about it (pushing up fake glasses). same with setting up cameras, getting live interviews, writing for radio, many things like that.
i'd prefer to call them quirks. i'd call you quirky. however, i have no idea how high you wear your pants either racer :) (though i must admit, beingh rather tall, i've had many people shout at me 'where's the flood?' i prefer to think that i'm just ahead of fashion!)

Oh, well -- at least I'm a dork who's husband took her to Tiffany's to pick out a very lovely ring for her birthday! And it's sweet on my hand.
He's a keeper.

I could swear I learned this on this very site, though I don't have a link. I was shocked, because I've used the word "dork" for about ever all the time never knowing I was calling someone a male appendage.
So if that's true and I'm not totally imagining this, Racer, you are definitely NOT a dork.
Geek power!!!

I mean, really...
first, they equate dork with nerd.....and then,
they define this as:: an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person; especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits
well!! I never! (uh, no rude jokes here, those who know me *too* well) I see no reason that one cannot be stylish, attractive and just as socially *ept* as they want ('specially with the right med) AND still be slavishly devoted....blah, blah...

hmmm....are you sure?
'cause M-W says.................1 : a carnival performer often billed as a wild man whose act usually includes biting the head off a live chicken or snake
Lar! I never knew! And Racer, too?! my, my
Not to mention I wouldn't feel 'comfortable' calling Ozzy Osbourne a 'geek'...well, maybe now, but NOT back in the day......oh yeah....wasn't a chicken, was it? A bat maybe? I forget)2 : a person often of an intellectual bent who is disliked
Ridiculous! I adore both you and Racer.
3 : an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity <computer geek>
<yawn> ok, ok, admirable stuff, of course, but I think 1 and 2 sound much more exciting...;-)
Social is *so* educational!

I think I have my own style, although that may be best defined as "I dress in the dark." I'm not sure about attractive -- that might be related to medication, though. And I'm not necessarily devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits.
{sigh} Social eptitude, though? Not I. Guess I really am a dork...
I kinda knew that, though. Must have been my innate dorkiness clueing me in...

You're Racer.
And that is a good thing, even if it is a classification all of its own!

While Nikki may be onto something, I'm going, after substantial consideration of the matter, to have to say you're a geek.
I base this on two things.
1. I don't like dorks.
2. Dorks don't sound promising.
This leaves me with the conclusion, that since I like you, you can't be a dork; and since dorks don't sound promising, and you sound promising, you also can't be a dork (the logic strikes me as right anyway).
QED
(Hope there are no dorks around; if so, I sincerely apologize if I"ve hurt or offended you, and state for the record, that I don't think you really are a dork. If you persist in the belief and assertion of your dorkdom, I may have to review my findings about dorks. That will take some time, but I'll be happy to do so, when the opportunity arises. I' will also state for the record that while I may not like dorks, my personal feelings about dorks don't reflect negatively on them, because I"m a very trivial and flighty type of person who leaps to many unjustified conclusions. Although my conclusion about Racer has been thoroughly scrutinized.)
