declan?

Posted by karen_kay on March 2, 2007, at 14:08:19

how do you say that? (now, if one is to write somethign that rhymes with your name, one must make certain it rhymes, correct? now, don't go getting your hopes up either. maybe i'm jsut tricking you into talking to me..)

so, is it deeeeee-clan (as in like white sheets?)

or is it deh clan (like lawn?)

or none of the above?

or a strange combo that i've messed up.

do tell please. i'm dying to know.

also, haven't heard from you in a while. are you still staying naughty or what? goodness, it's awful tough being the only naughty person here.... it's a tough job, but i guess someone has to do it...

lemme know.

See, here I have to imagine an American saying 'lawn'. I've got a wonderful Natalie Merchant song from "Motherland" which mentions spilling out on the lawn, so I know what it sounds like. I suppose you say it Dair-clan, with a short 'a'. Whereas here we pronounce 'lawn' as 'lorn', you probably say 'laaan'

I think you're doing a very good job being naughty...just the odd PBC and no blocks, it's an ideal situation, isn't it?

There's a famous TV presenter here called Declan, and his name is pronounced Deck-ln, so that's how I say it in my own head. I guess it's something like Diyk-ln in Aussie twang?

For me its 'Dee-clan'. But I like 'Dair-clan' better. So why do yall put extra r's into everything? Don't get me wrong, I know my accent is, if not more, extreme than yours. I've always liked yours though. Australian accents are SO FREAKING COOL!!!!

Why that song would be "St. Judas" I believe... When Natalie Merchant toured for that album and sang it in states named in the song, the audiences would actually cheer... which says something about the fraction who understood the song's subject, I think!

I believe Elvis Costello's real first name is Declan. And probably the Irish have a different pronunciation. In my head it's "DECK-lan."

i can be rather dense. (by the way, just where do you live anyway? silly me, i assume everyone lives in the united states here on babble, and speaks with the same twangy accent as i).

so, what you are saying, is that you pronounce this name like this:

dare (like truth or dare, the game)
clan (as in your crew, or mates, or whatever. i'm from indiana, so when i hear clan i tend to think of white sheets and horses. yucky!)

so, is this correct? dare-clan.

so clever this plan
i had at hand
to find the pronunciation of declan

one more thing though.. » Declan

still having these communication problems and just had to ask one question.

your last comment. here, i'll c & p it (just for you):

just the odd PBC and no blocks, it's an ideal situation, isn't it?

you said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ that stuff. now, i'm not trying to be argumentative (did i spell that right? god, imagine me trying to tell ajoke, awful!) what's that mean? not suggesting anything, other that that i'm very good at following the rules, right? jsut checking hun, want to make sure. of course, i could jsut assume that's what you meant, but i'm trying to get out of the habit of assuming.
