I went to the doctor yesterday because I've been having sort of strange knee pain. About six weeks or so, I tripped going up my back deck stairs and skinned my knee. Since then, whenever I kneel on it "just right" or if it gets bumped or leaned against in the right spot, it about sends me flying to the ceiling. Searing pain. Bah.
The doctor said it was traumatic bursitis. He likened it to something formerly called "Housemaid's knee". Ha! on that one. :) Anywhoo, he said since they were wooden steps I fell on, he didn't think that I had damaged the kneecap itself, just the bursa around it. He said if I had fallen on concrete, he would probably get an X-ray just to be safe, but wooden steps are more forgiving. Standard treatment is a course of anti-inflammatory meds.
So I pick my ibuprofen and head home
...where I proceed to trip going up the front **concrete** steps, landing on my other knee, rolling a bit, and injuring my shoulder.
Sigh.
I'd laugh about it, but it hurts way too bad right now. I'm off to a different doc (saw one at school yesterday and that clinic is not open on weekends). I sure hope docs see a lot of klutzes in their practices, because I feel really stupid.
Oh, and a much funnier (to me) klutzy moment...my husband was helping me while I bandaged my dog's paw (we're all the walking wounded, apparently). I sprayed this stuff called "Bitter Yuck" on the bandage to keep her from licking or chewing it. Now I wasn't paying attention to what direction I was spraying in relationship to anything but the paw. Um, apparently some of the spray was er, pointed at hubby, and he got a "taste" of it. %^O
I felt so bad for him and yet couldn't stop laughing. PIMP laughing. For over 30 minutes. Apparently it's pretty effective stuff.
Sigh

Oh golly!!!
I'm so sorry for your troubles but you made me laugh. Take comfort in: you are NOT the only gracefully challenged person. Staying vertical/bipedal positioned is difficult.... as is seeing where the nozzle is located on a spray can.
Feel better fast....

Poor gg poor hubby poor doggy. Now sit tight and stay away from spray cans. And please do not go up any stairs. Well at least that is three so you should be safe not providing you believe in things occurring in threes. Love Phillipa and feel better another walking wounded.

Oh honey- I'm so sorry about your knees! Did you get to a doc for the second fall?
I did laugh, but only because I know you did too ;-)
And the spray- I thought you were going to say you sprayed yourself in the face, but when you said it ended up being the hubby- well, I couldn't stop laughing- I can imagine that situation! Did he taste that stuff for days or what? Uck!
How is the doggie's paw doing?

So I've got a prescription for ibuprofen, er, actually the same one from the doc the day before for my knee, lol. And I have to keep it in a sling for a couple of days. The sling does help because it reduces the number of times I forget and try to use my arm and then yowsa!
No yoga for awhile, though. Or rather only a very limited number of poses.

Oh, and have I mentioned that I routinely turn on the sprinkler while I'm still looking down into the jets? (shakes head sadly...or is it to get the water out of her hair?)

Thanks, Phillipa. Hubby is recovered. Dog is on her way. I'm on my way. Maybe you're right about the threes. That would be nice if we could all stay safe for awhile.

Howdy! I meant to say that much earlier. And the very day you posted again, I inadvertently clicked on your yahoo ID on my list of messenger folks and thought to myself, "I wonder how she's doing." Strange, eh?
> Oh honey- I'm so sorry about your knees! Did you get to a doc for the second fall?
I did. The left knee is fine, but my shoulder is messed up. :(
>
> I did laugh, but only because I know you did too ;-)Yep. I almost always laugh at myself when I trip over my own feet.

Did he taste that stuff for days or what? Uck!Nah, just a half an hour or so. But oh my did I laugh. Hmmm, I can't recall him laughing. oops I think that will always be one of those memories that make you laugh out loud when you just think about it. Gotta have a lot of those.

> How is the doggie's paw doing? Thanks for asking. It seems better today, and she's not flinching when I clean it. She's so cute when it's time to soak it. She just hops right into the tub, wagging. This from the dog who is too something, fragile? prissy? to go outside to do her business when it's raining. (shrugs)
It's great to see you. And congrats on the bundle of joy.

Ouch.
I'd have to join you as a fellow klutz. My family used to wonder how my cousin fell over while standing perfectly still until I did the exact same thing several years later, and then I could tell them.
Somehow (knock wood) I've avoided hurting myself with my klutziness for the most part.
I hope it doesn't cause you too much trouble, and that you are all well and whole soon.
