As many of you know I was fired from my last job after only being there for five weeks and my self esteem, which is usually at zero, is now in the minus zone.
I have an interview tomorrow morning. It's in the field I'm taking classes for, but that was also the field I got fired from and I'm afraid that my feelings of failure are going to come through in the interview. It's hard to be confident and upbeat when you're depressed and full of anxiety. I'm going to take Clonazepam, which hopefully will wipe out most of the anxiety, but nothing can give me any confidence that I won't blow the interview. I have a long track record of getting interviews, but no offers.
Send those positive vibes my way.
Thanks,
Poet

Positive vibes to (((((Poet))))) may you get the job. Don't look at the others as failures. Maybe they were into budget cuts. Good luck Love Phillipa

Good Luck, Poet!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and sending tons of positive vibes!
This is a fresh opportunity to tell someone different why you're perfect for the job. And don't forget...you got an offer and were hired last time.
I'll be thinking about you tomorrow.
Lots of firm cyber handshakes to you,
Laurie

I do like the idea that we are the ones doing the interview, and not the prospective employer. Think to yourself, "is this a company that would be a good place for me?" and, even better - "are they worthy of my presence?"
That should help.

Hey, if anybody knows what you're going through its me. I was fired from a job, but I got another one. It took a while, and I had to take the job from hell to get me through, but whatever doesn't break us makes us stronger! Right? The real key is to never stop trying. If you never stop trying, you will succeed. Period.
I tried to think of each interview as practice. I tried to improve on each one, even if it wasn't a job I was all that crazy about. Practice REALLY helps. Also preparing some notes helped me alot. I always get nervous and my mind goes blank, so I wrote down all the things I wanted to emphasize about myself, as well as dates and facts. At first I worried about looking stupid referring to notes, but I decided it was better than drawing a blank and saying something stupid.
I also did alot of research online about tips for interviews. Rehearsing your answers and having an idea of what to expect really helps with the nerves. You should 'try' to maintain eye contact as much as possible (hard for me, but I try), and remember or write down the interviewer's name so at the end you can say, Thank you for taking the time to see me today Mr. Smith. I look forward to hearing from you. Later send a thank you note describing why your skills would make you perfect for the job. This is a good thing to practice too, in writing and speaking. Its difficult for people like us to talk about our strengths and sell ourselves, but it can be learned.
My current boss told one reason she hired me was because at the end of the interview when they ask if you have any questions, I had some prepared. I 1st asked what was her favorite thing about the company, and 2nd what the evironment was like in her department. She said no one ever has questions prepared when they ask that.
Good luck! You'll do fine. And if you don't get it, its practice for the job you will get in the future.
I'm sending positive vibes your way!

Positive vibes coming your way.
You have so much to offer, I hope they recognize that.
And just as importantly, I hope they have a lot to offer you too. Because you didn't fail last time, your company did, by not properly orienting you.

all right. i'm sending the few positive thoughts i have your way. you're going to walk into that room and own them. they'll be in their underpants in no time (good thing, you ask? always!) they're going to beg you to take this job adn you'll casually say 'i'll get back to you on that one.' and you'll leave them hanging for exactly 1 week (during which, they'll call you and call you. but, you're such a very important person, that you don't have the time to answer their calls so soon.). you'll finally answer their calls and say 'i suppose i'll take it, but you have to up the pay and i want stock options.' they'll do it. you'll take the job. it'll be the one you've been waiting for. and, because of you, casual friday will now mean coming to work only in your underpants (for everyone everywhere!)
yahoo poet, you changed the world (for better, i'd say!!!)
good luck!

It's hard to say, she didn't ask any inane questions like where do I want to be in five years, but it only took a half hour. I'm afraid that I got rushed out, but then again maybe she liked my answers and didn't need to ask anything else?
She said she'll be making a decision on Friday. I know this sounds jaded, but I've heard that so many times before I don't expect to hear from her again. I am sending her a thank you email. She gave me the old call or email me with questions, but I know that's just a phrase they say, not something they mean.
I don't know the salary, but they pay for parking which is a real positive thing.
I can do everything she described, and as long as there are no psycho people around I would like it.
More if I hear from her.
Thank you all for the good vibes and confidence, I hope she received them loud and clear and decided on first sight I'm the one she wants.

Oh Poet, I'm so happy you did well. I know what you mean about hearing that line, but the thing is, it will eventually be you they call that Friday to offer the job. Its just a matter of time.
I also know what you mean about toxic people in the work place. I've had more than my share. But I've found learning how to deal with them and not letting their negative energy get to you can go a long way. My last 3 jobs had horrible horrible people who made my life hell. Even in retrospect I can see these were way worse than your average difficult person.
When I got my recent job I also had a very, very difficult person who resented me from the get go, and she was supposed to train me. But I feel from my previous experiences I handled it pretty well. Each time it gets a little easier. I'm in no way saying anything about your situation, I don't know anything about it. I just thought I would share my experience since it seems to be inproving.
I'm sure there are lots of books on the subject, but one I bought (3 jobs and nine years ago!) is called "Dealing with People You Can't Stand: How to Bring Out the Best in People at Their Worst" I found it too in dept to use all the advice, but just reading it helped me to understand that how you handle a difficult person can change the outcome. There are ways to diffuse a situation, and once you know you've tried them all, you can rest assured its simply an unreasonable person. I found it very enlightening. Anyway, just a thought since you've experienced it too.

congrats Poet. I also recommend contacting her to ask a question - even if it seems dumb or about something you don't care so much about - so that your name seems more familiar. I've been in situations where I felt more inclined to hire someone because they reached out and made contact. I think it gives the impression that they genuinely want to work with you and helps you stand out from the other applicants.
take care,

They have an ad for the job I interviewed for in today's paper. I should know by now that I am a failure and a loser and I'm destined for another low paying mindless job.
Try and fail, my life story.

Hi Poet,
I'm sorry if this sounds obvious and not helpful, but just because they advertise the job and/or don't offer it to you doesn't mean you didn't do ok at the interview...
anyway, I hate not getting jobs. It's a horrible feeling. I'm so sorry.
take care,

Aw - I'm so sorry - but it might not mean you don't end up getting it. They might have wanted to see who else might apply, but nobody better than you might apply.
Job hunting is so demoralizing.
Please try not to be so hard on yourself. I know it's hard not to....especially when we're looking for a job, we're so fragile & vulnerable.
Step forward for a lovely hug! ((((((((you)))))))
Keep us posted. You're in my thoughts, luv, Kath

Remember what I said, every interview is practice for the next one. And all that practice is preparation for the job you will eventually get! I've been there, believe me! I was so broken hearted not to get a particular job that I thought was my dream job, only to later get an even better job that was more than I'd ever dreamed!

I wish I had as much faith in myself as you do in me. I just picture it being November 2007 and my unemployment is running out and still no job. I know, live in the present, not the future, it's just that my present isn't so great.
Thanks for the encouragement. I need it.
