Stress/somatisation

Posted by capricorn on November 1, 2006, at 8:43:40

Does anyone know of any effective means of dealing with somatisation?
I have a tendency to experience flu like symptoms(flushed/slightly feverish feeling, joint aches, generally out of sorts) when stressed which i am begining to think may be 'somatic'.

When stressed i can easily tip me over the edge into a derealised/anxious ridden/and paranoiac state sometimes with the 'somatic' symptoms mentioned or it can result
in my descending into a highly accute though short lived state of het up irrational ranting and raving /paranoia/ and for want of a better phrase 'intellectual disintegration'.

Hello

Well I suffer from what you describe exactly. I've spent whole weekends convinced I'm 'ill' -- like you describe. Just today in one of my lectures I began feeling flu-ey and things, although it disappeared once I realised that it was probably me, and when the topic the lecturer was talking about became interesting.

I've been know to go to the doctors with pains in my stomach and well, they never found anything. It was at the time when I had my first depressive episode, so no wonder!

Yeah, I'm very prone to stress, when others are not. Its frustrating!

BTW sorry I don't have any solutions other than the usual healthy eating/exercising/blah. Have you looked at the adaptogens? I've found them very effective.

Kind regards

Meri
