Flowers

Posted by madeline on October 27, 2006, at 16:59:46

Flowers are without hope. Because hope is tomorrow and flowers have no tomorrow.

~Antonio Porchia, Voces, 1943, translated from Spanish by W.S. Merwin

But they do look beautiful don't they? The winter camilla's are blooming here and the gardenias are making one last stand before winter.

What are you guys favorite flower?

Bird of Paradise- I wish I lived someplace tropical where I could grow it in my garden.

Moss roses- those I can grow in my garden and the reseed themselves and come back every year.

Hmmmm, Mr. Porchia fails to recognize that, even
if they have no tomorrow, they have the ability to brighten today, in my opinion at least. Ever seen the smile on the face of someone who is having a particularly bad day and they get surprised with a nice bouquet of flowers? A small gift of a thing of beauty won't cure all that is ailing you, but it sure helps you realize that someone cares.

My faves are calalilies; orchids and gerbers.

I can't pick my favorite flower, but my favorite flower *this moment* is a long strand of intricate orchids that invite you to come and look closer.

large blossoms. white and orchid purple- polka dots and leopard spots. lettuce-edged petals.

(hope you weren't thinking I was going to say "linden blossom" haha)
