I asked someone (besides the Webster and Co)to please explain to me the subtle difference between these two words, and someone did, very well, ... and I accidentally deleted the post and can't remember your site name. I'm sorry. Your name's on the tip of my tongue.
And, speaking of tongues, I need to brush my teeth, get dressed, and get out of this isolated condo ... been a hermit!
I'd like to buy a new 2006 med book, and a secretary manual for tricky confusing English word play!

It fell off the tip of my tongue and out of my mouth. It was you Zeugma! I'm happier now!
In case anyone else has trouble w/ it, here's an explanation, hope don't mind me quoting ...
<affects= influences (used as verb). Can also be a plural noun referring to the emotional states of (1 or more) individuals. effects
= results of a causative factor. you are not the only one to get flustered by these words-I had botched the use
of the derivatives 'afferent' and 'efferent', which are near-homophonic antonyms.>byeagain, cf

There's a nice podcast by Grammar Girl, where she spends a minute or two explaining various grammar connundrums.
Her easy mnenmonic was:
A
Very
Easy
Noun*A*ffect is a *V*erb
*E*ffect is a *N*oun
Unless you're studying behavioral science, in which a neurotransmitter may effect an affect. haha (ignore that! it's just gonna screw you up!)
Grammar girl says that if you can remember A Very Easy Noun, you'll get it right 90% of the time!
good luck, and hope you have positive effects!

Cool. Like tricks :)
Too bad it really isn't a very easy noun.
Oh there I go ... tryin' to mess things up already. Stop it me!
The trick is having a positive effect on my sometimes otherwise flat affect.
