My wife was coming home from work today so I opened the garage door for her--being that thoughtful husband. I also took some trash dowm there as to not stink up the kitchen. A little time passed. I heard a noise downstairs and went to welcome my wife home. When I opened the door, I was met not by my wife--but a black bear. He was in the process of draging the trash out for a little picnic. He almost fell down running away from me. I didn't know what to think--had to clean a trail of trash going out of the driveway. My daughter was mad that she didn't get to see it---animal lover. If only y'all could see the expression on mommy's face when the kids met her at the door--"Mommy! A bear was in our garage!" I had some explaining to do as to why I put my kids so close to a certain mauling---go figure :)

Wow! That's exciting! I never had black bears so close to home, but once when we were camping one leaned up against the tent for 10 minutes or so.
My mom tells this story, actually. I was only 4 years old and asleep.
Bobby- do you mind me asking what part of the country you live in where black bears know about an all-you-can-eat trash buffet?

Eeek. And Eeeek.
When I was ten or so we vacationed in the Canadian Rockies and one came up to our cabin. My cousin grabbed the camera and went to take a picture before my parents could grab her. The bear advanced, she retreated, snapping pictures all the way.
She got some great pictures, but I still quake at the visual image from the cabin.

Remind me to keep our garage door close. I hear the bears are coming closer to civilization. Love Phillipa

That is quite exciting. What is it about you that is so intimidating and makes a beast of the wild flee in fear? Hail Bobby. Conquerer of the wild.
