She drank the Kool-Aid.
She owns a Mac.
(So do and have I, since 1984.)

Dear Folks,
I just got reassigned to a new platoon. I had to meet with Colonel Panic, but I probably won't see him again for a while. Heres the update on my reassignment to panther platoon 10.3:Had to erase entire harddrive. had to reinstall OSX 10.3. Then I had to connect my beautiful powerbook to the tabula rasa of the iMac via firewire. Then I had to drag and drop all of my applications, reinstall a lot of software, set up email accts. printer drivers, and the best part of all...
Reimporting the iTunes library. I have most of it on my 80 gb powerbook drive, so it's working hard right now to copy the tunes over to the iMac. I REALLY hope that all is not lost here. It's bad enough that we lost about 50dollars of purchased music videos when the iMac went berserk. I really don't want (my husband to have) to reimport our entire CD collection. ugh.
Upgrade the iLife suite for the iPhoto and all that crap. It's so complicated with iPhoto and iTunes, because the applications hide a lot of their files. It's not so simple as just dragging .mp3 and .jpeg files from one computer to another. alas.
my iTunes library includes about 50gb of songs. That's a lot of data. firewire takes about an hour for this transfer.
Fortunately, the really expensive programs that I use for work and school (MS office 2004, SPSS, MatLab, Adobe, Filemaker and such are all in good shape following the drag and drop approach)
What a lovely way to spend a couple of days, huh? Can't wait until my next leave. Hopefully it will be longer than a weekend pass.
Love from the front,
-ll
