I've been e-mailing with a lot the people who used to post here a lot. And the ones I've talked don't post here anymore cause they have gone off med and say they feel better off the meds. Do any of you agree with this? Are we taking meds we don't need? Seriously I talking right now about those who posted solely on Social not the meds board. Love Phillipa

That's an individual and personal decision. I would imagine that each would make it based on their own experiences of meds versus someone else's experience. Everyone's body, internal and external experiences are different.

Maybe they didn't need their meds - or didn't need them anymore.
I know I needed mine. But I also know I had a real mess getting them right and for a long time I was as dumb as a post on them.

Last year I quit meds and figured out i was better off without them, at least for the time being.
I think maybe I was on too many meds though. I'm thinking about looking for a new psychiatrist if I choose to go back on meds.

I believe a lot of people could go off meds and feel good. It is about so many more things then medication though, so if you have all other issues in tact and there are not a lot of stressors then it would be easier. Im not saying that people dont need drugs, just that I believe some can go off meds. I don't think you put your foot in your mouth Phillipa! IMO society is grossly over medicated, in all areas, not just psychiatry

Maybe some "we's" but not me "we". I tried no meds and I've tried undermedicating and with no meds did have about 9 months of fine but it did not last. With my history, I have about a 100% chance of relaspe and re-emergence. At least with decent treatment, I can maybe avoid that or at least make it a "dip" as opposed to a pulling votrex that's more and more difficult to recover from with each episode.
I think it's great if folks can successfully go to being unmedicated as a sustained situation, I personally don't know that many in RL that manage to pull it off after knowing many who have tried. Of course, I'm the one who believes in treatments and rarely believe in cures.
