I'm so excited about this I just had to show it off. I've wanted a Buddha statue for my garden for a long time, but it's never been in my budget. This one was really really inexpensive at Olde Time Pottery.
Happy dance! (nice to be doing that about something)

And I'm glad the episode is passing.

your buddha is beautiful. I hope you feel inner peace like he does. He's meditating. I think the style is kind of Khmer, but I'm not sure. Very tasteful :)

Oh it's beautiful! My first thought was "Oh I want one too, for when I have a garden"
Then I thought.. "Wait, the Dalai Lama says 'unhappiness stems from desire'"
Then I wondered how they get around it when they want a new Buddha for their temple?
Then I giggled.

Thanks, me too. Getting there, anyway. Lots of little things are adding up to bigger stress, though. Drats.

Thanks. I'm trying.

I'm not sure, either. I do know that the position of the hands means something. I should find a small, dry spot I can sit on to hang out there with him. :)

Being the worrier that I am, I asked my husband if he thought anyone might steal it. His reply, "Can anyone really steal the Buddha?" I said, "As long as no one meets him on the road..." ;)

But I was glad to hear from you. I may be coming out your way in early Sept. I'll keep you posted and keep my fingers crossed that you'll be in town.
Take care,

Thanks Phillipa. I'd never been to that store before, though I've wanted to. Their advertisements always caught my eye. Great prices!

In reply to Re:Very, very cool. Is it old?? (nm) » gardenergirl, posted by AuntieMel on July 26, 2006, at 17:40:35
Thanks. It's made to look old. It seems like a cast concrete mix with paint or some other kind of pigments, and it's hollow inside... which is good, because it's not too heavy. :)
They had a few different sizes. I think this was the medium one. The large was pretty inexpensive, too, but the scale seemed off for where I wanted to put it.

It's so nice to see your name again. I thought you were tied up with work, I didn't realise you were feeling badly. I'm sorry. But it sounds like you're getting your mojo back now.
Your statue is very cool and I loved having a sticky beak at your other flower pickies. Especially your cherry tree garden. It's so pretty. I hope it brings a smile to your face.
I've printed out your cherry tree garden to put in my comfort book. I hope that's okay. If it isn't, I won't use it.
I find it really soothing to take photos of things in my garden. I hope it helped you too.
This is the end of the thread.
